SEO Checklist For New Blog

Hello Warriors,
Can somebody advice me with a list of SEO checks i would need to do on my new blog. I discovered a serious seo error today on my blog by researching on google and this was that i had not set my Permalinks setting correctly which has now been fixed.
I have also installed the Platinum SEO plugin today which someone recommended but im not sure what it actually does. Can somebody shed some light on this?
