Google Search Based KWT vs GAKT

I recently found what I considered to be a promising niche. According to GAKT it has 4400 global and 4400 local searches. With org and net TLD available, looks even better.
Then I went to Google Search Based keyword tool and it says that global monthly searches = 12. Yes, 12.
So, what's your take on this? Is GAKT yanking my chain and not to be trusted for niche research? If so, what tool is reliable for niche research?
I've heard Market Samurai and Micro Niche Finder are both good but don't they both rely on search data directly from GAKT?
