SEO managment software - how do you keep track of everything?? please help..

hi -

total newbie to this forum (read hundreds of threads, finally got the nerve to post)...thanks for having me

i'll keep it short: i've put together an action plan to promote my first product/site but as i'm about to start it occurred to me that there is no way to keep everything i'm doing ORGANIZED in any way so i know
- what i did
- what i didn't do
- what was effective
- etc

i've googled "seo management software" but it all seems like consulting companies with very expensive services.

are there any FREE TOOLS out there (or relatively cheap ones, if you feel they add value) that will let me ORGANIZE my SEO efforts?

    I'd recommend SEOpressor or Scribe SEO. Neither are free. The second one has a monthly fee, but both are quality products.

    Many people use Basecamp for this task (cheap). There is really not a great SEO management tool out there outside of the tools that do the technical work.

    The maintaining of outsourcers/reporting/accounting - there is just not a good piece of software that I've seen.

      Thanks so much for getting back to me, guys! I checked out those options but they arent what I"m looking for (plus I'm not using wordpress which rules out the first one)....

      Maybe I'm not describing it well. The closest solution I've found is this:

      IBP from Axandra (ibusinesspromoter . com)

      has anyone used this before? it's pretty pricey ($250 I think) but if its good, I guess its worth it.

      If not IBP, is there anything "like" this out there for cheaper? free? better version but more expensive? Just trying to educate myself on the subject.

      Thanks again for your time. I know it's not an 'instant make money' question but I"m trying to start organizing my efforts so it can me a "long term make money" question

        I haven't found any software to help either, I'm still on my first major project and the best thing I have found so far is to setup a well organised excel spreadsheet.

        Mine has a separate tab for every page on my site, and various other tabs for my main keyword list, lists of article directories, etc, etc.

        In each sheet I have the site URL, main keywords I'm targeting, and any info related to that page, logins, major backlink urls etc.

        It's amazing how often I use it, and has definately helped me. I would even think it is better than a specific software, because you can set it up just how you like it!

        I have just started using it as a calendar as well, with new tabs for dates I did major backlinking tasks etc.

        Just my experience, hope it helps

    I can't believe it hasn't been suggested yet. But Microsoft Excel!

    Ok, I know its not really tailored to SEO but it definitely does the job.

    If you don't already have Excel, use Google Docs Spreadsheet. Basically the same thing.

    I usually create multiple tabs for different backlinking methods I use, each tab contains URLs, dates, titles, plus anything else I like to include.

    I then have a notes sheet to write down other stuff.

    Every month I can then review my progress and easily find out what worked and what didn't, through split testing.

    I'm then left with true SEO methods that work fast and every time. I can then submit those URLs to RSS abrogators or do whatever I like with them.

    Until Jacksons software comes out, this works very well for what you need to do.

    On the outset, it looks like a diary. But if it is a planning tool that you need then you are asking something that everyone in project management requires. At the simplest level, you just need a pen and paper or maybe you can improve it to using excel spreadsheets. At the more complex level you can use Microsoft project where you can create tasks/substasks, planned dates and your milestones. If there are more than one person, you can also assign to different resources, etc.
