In search engine optimization (SEO) terminology, White Hat SEO refers to the usage of SEO strategies, techniques and tactics that focus on a human audience opposed to search engines and completely follows search engine rules and policies. For example, a Web site that is SEO optimized, yet focuses on relevancy and organic ranking is considered to be optimized using White Hat SEO practices. Some examples of White Hat SEO techniques include using keywords and keyword analysis, backlinking, link building to improve link popularity, and writing content for human readers White Hat SEO is more frequently used by those who intend to make a long-term investment on their Web site. Also called Ethical SEO.

White hat SEO = Following by the rules, playing fairly but with a system and giving the search engines exactly what they want.
Black hat SEO = Exploiting loopholes, using automation and not playing by the rules.

I exploit loopholes and never play by the "rules." I don't believe in automation, but
it can work if done right. There are no rules in SEO that I know of. There's stuff
that works, and stuff that doesn't. Stuff that gets you de-indexed is not SEO, is it?

I agree. I recommend sticking to white hat methods when doing SEO related stuff if you plan on maintaining a credible long term website.

"White Hat SEO" means the right,natural ways of building traffic to your website.

That term simply includes the techniques that follow the rules of the search engines contrary to "Black Hat SEO".

There are many White Hat SEO techniques and are the ETHICAL practices to increase your website ranking.

Examples of "White Hat SEO" techniques are:

IMHO white hat is anything that does not manipulate the search engines in any way, which excludes pretty much all SEO. Any "optimization" - on page or off - to get better search engine ranking could be viewed as manipulation.

Call it (white hat) accidental SEO if you will.

White Hat is what people will admit to and tell others to do. It's the
no-brainer list. The rest we STFU about because it's our little secret arsenal.
Call it Wizard Hat, which encompasses all other SEO that works.

Thing is, just like The Sorcerer's Apprentice, wearing the hat without the
experience can lead to trouble.
