Google Webmaster Tool - updating frequency?

Hi,
I have understood that one of the most reliable ways to find out about your sites backlinks is Google Webmaster Tool.
Does anyone know how often this information is updated? My account only seems to be updated once since I started to use it a couple of weeks ago!
Do you agree that this is the best place to follow-up on your backlinks?

PS I'm also using SpyGlass (free version from SEO PowerSuite) and the add-on for Firefox (Yahoo backlinks) to follow my backlinks. It seems as these two products collects their data from the same source. Do you agree?

    Hi @macholasse - Backlink update wise you're probably getting about the same frequency I get. Every week or so my backlinks are updated in Webmaster Tools.

    I'm not aware of any "official" update frequency from Google with the tool.

    I think Webmaster Tools is a good place to examine your own backlinks. I also like the SEOMoz pro tool set and SEO Majestic for backlink discovery. I've never used SpyGlass before.

      Why are you not aware of any official update frequency in google, I think there is any thing that will be useful and informative in webmaster tools.

        I find that my rankings improve with new back links that I create, but that they rarely show in webmaster tools. It is not that they are not indexed, it is just they don't filter through to webmaster tools. I always use opensiteexplorer DOT org which gives all your backlinks (and your competitors more importantly.) The downside is that as they do not have the crawling power of google it takes about a month or two for new links to show, but it is pretty comprehensive.

    It depends on how much traffic your website is getting or how popular does Google thinks your website to be? but, Google never provides complete data about backlinks. it only shows the numbers, but never lets you download the entire list.

    Use backlink watch and yahoo site explorer to find those backlinks.I hope you will get your backlinks from those tools.
