I realize that EXACT match may be the most precise, but what about phase?

Lets say I have 20 keywords that each get 20 searches per day, phrase match.

Is it reasonable to think that 400 people would earch for my site, and if I were #1, I'd get about 40% of this traffic ?

so about 160 visits?

And then convert about 1% of these people?

Does anyone else try to reverse engineer markets like this? It really gets the greed glands going.

Anyone else have any market sam tips on estimating future traffic?

Yes, you should DEFINITELY be doing this to determine the true value of a keyword. I don't use phrasematch; I just stick with the exact as its more accurate. Your analysis for the example you gave is pretty good. Of course your conversion rate really depends on a number of factors. If I'm just trying to get a visitor to click an adsense ad, 5 to 10% (or higher) is more realistic.

You should read this article to get a better idea of typical click distribution for the top ten results in Google. Hope this helps! How Much Money is a Top Google Ranking Worth to Your Business?

Ugh. Exact is depressing and seems TOO low. But, ok thanks for your help. I will check out that article.

I have the same issue. Does any of you know how you can rank for the phrase match? I ranked for the exact match but if you keep on linkbuilding for the same keyword you don't go up in the rankings for the phrase match, only the exact match...

    Thanks.
