Are they the same animal - Profile Backlinks and Forum Backlinks?

If not, what's the difference?

    Depends on how they are being spoken about, forum backlinks may be the term used for backlinks built though posting on forum posts, but you can get forum profile backlinks, which are known as profile links, but there are other platforms you can build these sort of links on, your not just limited to forums to build profile links, any social networking type website which allows you to create a user page can be used to build a profile link.

    Simply profile links refer to links in the profile this does not to be a forum profile it can be any profile even in fb.

    in other side forum backlinks are links associated with forums, signatures and links posted within the posts
