Banned from Wordpress for Blog Commenting

I tried to make sure that all my comments are well thought out, and relevant to the blogs I posted in, but still, the Wordpress admin deactivated my blog for "comment spamming". I don't get it, why is it spamming if my comments are focused on the contents of the blog? I don't know whether it is due to my backlinks from blogs, or whether Wordpress has really good built in SEO setup, but my blog went to first page of Google for my target keyword in less than a month, but now it is banned! What to do?

My friends already warned me about the strict rules and limitations of wordpress.com, I guess I should have listened to them

I wouldn't put any site I cared about on blogspot or wordpress.com or any of those third party platforms...they get to decide if you get shut down or not.

I'd rather just spend the $10/year for a domain and self host. Much safer, much more control, and much less of a hassle. (I've already got a few hosting accounts so adding one more blog doesn't make a big difference there - but if you don't have hosting then you can start with ~$8/month pretty easily.)

It is definitely better to have a self hosted website off of any platform where you have no control as to what happens to it.

Let the new year represent a new beginning. Learn from your mistakes and move on.

True, it's definitely better to have a self hosted website. According to WordPress.com support, mapping your domain to a WordPress.com account will not avoid the blocks that ban by IP address. The request goes to the WordPress.com name servers which trigger the blocks. So adding the Domain Mapping feature will not get around the bans.

Yeah, never use those guys to host a blog... it leads to major problems down the road if your site ever does take off. Just pay the $50 per year to have your own site and own your domain.

There are a ton of cheap cpanel hosts that will work great.

Thanks for the tips, I guess my friends were right. The reason why I didn't start from scratch was Wordpress' SEO optimized ability, I thought I'd rank better using their platform, that's all. But i don't know if its worth it now. It really sucks, I talked to their admin, and they were quite strict, they would not listen to reason, they just said we don't like bloggers to comment on other blogs with links to other sites in the name area, so any blog backlinking is a complete no-no to them.

Wow I never realised they would ban you for that. Just doesn't make sense, especially if your posts are relevant to the blog as you say. I do that all the time. Really odd one.

You comment on others' blogs all the time, but do you have a backlink to your own blog in your name tag? I think this might just be the crucial factor here.

this is one of those things which is like the sun rising in the east...don't fight it!

as mentioned, you can set up a blog with hostgator in seconds and it only will cost you $4.95 a month for the baby account.

Plus the wordpress.com site won't allow you to monetize the site in case you ever want to start making $$$

think of the free blogs as practice....now you're ready for the big time!

and please come by and leave appropriate comments on my posts any time! LOL

Thanks mate. Yes, looking on the bright side, it was certainly a valuable experience. I like using Emmanuel Kant's law (one of my fav philosophers) in my actions. Kant's law states that you should look at two things to decide whether the action is appropriate or not. First, if everybody does what you are doing, would you like it? Second, if somebody does this back to you, would you like it? What I did passed both these two tests for me. I would welcome any constructive comments contributing to my blog with a backlink back to their website, the backlink should however not point to a competitor's site, that would cross the line for me. I would not post any of my backlinks on a competitor's site.

I've only a month's experience in SEO, so maybe learning the ropes through the free WP platform is still needed. When I'm ready to progress, I will definitely create my own website, not even a self-hosted wp blog, by then hopefully even the onsite SEO of Wordpress will be basic to me.

Right now, and i guess you can see it for yourself on my sig, I have another free blog similar to the banned one, but this one's got no blog backlinks, lets see if this blog can get good positions in google search results. I exported the contents from the banned blog to this one, which I don't even know if its a good idea, will Google think that it is duplicate content and penalize my new blog?

As for the new blog, I am not risking another blog getting deactivated, I refuse to blog comment any longer. This is especially tough on me because I really like making creative, unique blog comments that I hope the author would like. I guess on-site optimization, social bookmarking, article writing, and directory submission are my only choices left. Forum backlinks maybe, but extreme care is required. I don't know much about link wheel or other complex linking structures yet, as for black hat SEO, that would definitely get my blog banned before I say Happy New Year
            Cheers.

Self hosted websites are much safer than blogs on other platforms.I would rather pay for my own site than to be dependent on third party platforms.Blogger or wordpress is suitable for newbies or for some housewives who want to earn something without spending anything. If you are planning for a full time professional business site..then having a self hosted website is better.

I am a newbie in the SEO game, and I heard that wordpress is already search engine optimized, that is why I chose it in the first place, everything is already there, very user-friendly, such as tags, header, title, body, category, and other html stuff. I am starting to wonder that in using wordpress, I probably don't even need to backlink at all...

There is no reason to avoid Wordpress because it's Google-friendly and easy for even a newbie to set up but DON'T host it with WordPress or any free blogging hosting sites. That's where you went wrong as these self-hosting sites have rules which you clearly violated. Hence the ban.

        Instead:

Buy a domain of your own - go to Godaddy or cheapnames.
Subscribe to a shared hosting plan - Hostgator (Baby would be fine) or Bluehost from as little as $3.99/m - you need to check the current rate. Check to see if there are any discount vouchers you can use which will save you even more money.

Create WordPress sites using Fantastico Deluxe or its equivalent from your host cPanel
You'll then be free to post whatever you want and also post on other people's WP sites provided you offer valuable content.

If you don't know how to do any of that, simply type in "How do I do x" in Google's search box and away you go with free information and video demos.

        Good luck.

Never use free blogging sites as your money sites.

Why invest your time and energy into something you dont own. Its like building an addition onto a house your renting. Why would you do that? Free blogging sites are for gaining backlinks and traffic to your money sites.

Yes, but what if the comments benefit both the blog and the commentor? The comment brings a constructive, interesting issue to discuss, while the comment also has a backlink to the commentor's blog in the name tag. Mutual benefits, both sides gain from this. It is not a zero-sum game mate, it can be mutually beneficial.

I never like to work or use anything that don't have much control and I've been in the similar situation myself and there is nothing you can do except just move on and re-start. So, I would advice you to move on with your own domain and hosting and learn from your mistakes.

Yep, it sucks. I posted a comment on many blogs (about 50-60 blogs over the month maybe even more), but I tried to make all my comments constructive and relevant to the blog I posted in. If one or two of those 60 blogs felt that my comment was not contributing enough to warrant a backlink, the comment becomes classified as spam, the WP admin is notified and my blog is immediately deactivated. The risk is high, just one mistake and you're out. That's why I am not taking these risks any longer.
Like almost all of you said, self-hosting with Wordpress app is a much more attractive option.

Also, it occurred to me now that when I post a comment I use my Thai target keyword as my name, I assumed the author of the blog can not read Thai so wouldn't know whether its my name or my target keyword. Maybe some of them knew how to type Thai and realized I was using my keyword as my name. I think this might be the reason I got flagged as spam.

    Heck,

All my sties are wordpress front ends with various templates that I have self hosted. Most hosting sites allow you to install wordpress fairly easily to your domain (at least my hosting provider does.) That way, I am 100% responsible for everything, and do not have to worry about the host splitting revenue (If I made $100 last month, how much did wordpress, etc make?) Don't leave money on the table

With wordpress you can not have a nice domain anyway. If you only want to blog for fun, free blogs are OK. Otherwise, get a domain and have your money site on that. Then install a WP blog on it and you are done. You have the best of both world.
