Say for example i want richpeople.com but it is taken so I get peoplerich.com which is free

From the SEO point of view, is there any difference between these two domain names?

(Sorry if this is an often asked question. Could not find any clear answers using search)

    Huge difference!

Which keyword are you targeting? "rich people" or "people rich"?

if it's rich people, why not go with mostrichpeople.com? or another relevant word in front of it?

    Good luck,

    Nick

Yes Nick is correct. Try looking for other relevant domains. I also heard of people placing an "e" before the domain, such as erichpeople.com

Maybe this is a stupid question, but how does Google know the first word in your url is "rich" and not "erich"?

Yes it would make a huge difference, you must have your keywords in the right order in your site title.

Use hyphens if you have to, or even go for a longer tail keyword website name.

I asked same question yesterday and I ended up getting a domain by just switching my keywords around like the peoplerich.com example. I wanted to target the keyword phrase 'free xbox 360' and ended up getting the domain xbox360free.com.

It will be interesting to see how it does...

The difference is that you will be competing in a bigger league than if you would have the exact-match domain. The difference is that people that have websites optimized for anything with the combination of words 'xbox, 360, free' will be competiting with you.

While if you had the exact match, you would (for the most part) only be competing with people that have the exact match as well. That being said, the closer you get to match the keyword with your domain, the better.

Adding an 'e' or 'my' or 'hq' will definitely help and is a far better option than reversing the words.
