How can we check backlinks from Google?

I notice that every single backlink checker service I have tried returns backlinks that use the Yahoo explorer. It only gives us backlinks that Yahoo has recognized but not Google. How do I get more of an overview of the backlinks to my pages?

On of my pages the tool Analyze Backlinks only shows about 6 backlinks and I know I have more than that, or do I?

My guess is that there is no real way of knowing how many backlinks we are getting to our pages.

Thank you for your help.

Yahoo reports the most that's why. If yahoo has found them, then Google has also so don't worry about that.

Google doesn't make backlink to any ole site known publicly. However, if you use Google Webmaster Tools you will see all the backlinks to your site that Google has registered which is close to what Yahoo! Site Explorer returns.

Meh. That site drives me insane. The tool works once an hour it seems, otherwise it would be great because they give you a detailed list.

This tool will show you the same thing if you typed and searched "link:mywebsite.com" in Google. This # is not correct. They have WAY more than what they return to you.

The only way you're going to get an EXACT number from Google is through your Webmaster Tools... So it has to be your site...

I use two things to check my google backlinks...
    1. The manual way is run a simple query - "link:your website url here"

now they don't count every link, nor will they show you every link they do count for some reason.

The best way I believe is #2 below.

    2. This is the one I recommend b/c it gets you the most info, install the free firefox toolbar called seo quake. Then go to google and do a query that points back to your site like this: "site: your website url here"

let me know if you have any other questions... I dig this tool bar and use it all the time.

When you run pretty much any backlink checker, the backlinks Yahoo shows seem to be at 4 to 10 times those that Google shows.

Agreeing with others I would not place too much on this.

I just think maybe Yahoo reports are better than Google’s

Here is the problem I have had with the backlink tools I have tried, they only return just a handful or maybe a dozen backlinks and this is after I have used article marketing robot to submit to thousands of directories. I did a report and saw that 400 articles got approved so I should be getting many more backlinks but they are not there. Maybe they take awhile to update.

    What do you think?

As for checking backlinks in general though the best tool I have found is the free version of SEO spyglass. Click on the pop-up window that pop-ups every time you use backlink checker and you can sign-up for it. It's much better than using the web version (not too mention it only works like once every hours. It's horrible if you are checking multiple pages in 1 go)

I tried link:domain from in Google but it didn't return any backlink when other programs did.
