Had to Re-Verify Site?

I logged into webmaster tools today and my site was not verified? So i had to re-verify, which wasn't an issue. But does anyone know if there is a reason why this might have happened?
I've been working hard lately on backlinks for a new keyword and it was climbing up the serps quite nicely and then today i can find any results. Is this linked?
