Not using Keyword as Anchor text on .edu blogs?

Hi,
I want your opinion on not using your keyword as your anchor text while commenting on .edu blogs. The reason I'm asking is my domain name/keywords have nothing to do or can relate to .edu blog post topics. I want them to be approved and they can't look spammy. So If i use my name as the anchor text, will the SEO value be pretty strong since the link is coming from a high ranking .edu blog?

    Hi Kris,

    For EDU commenting I usually use Name @ Keyword Phrase, and this gets approved most times, especially if your site is relevant to the blog post.
    e.g. Your URL is BlueWidgets.com
    Use your name as 'Kris @ Blue Widgets', 'Kris from Blue Widgets' etc
    Not ideal anchor text but still contains your keyword phrase.

      I agree. It's much better if you use your name together with your keyword in commenting on .edu sites or authority sites.

    Comment link building is overrated IMO. But yes the best way has gotta be as mentioned in the post above.

      I'd definitely consider not using my keywords. As you say you want your post to get accepted. Although you won't have the keywords, you will get some serious link juice, so I would go without the keywords for now. If you get accepted and find a few other sites, you can try your luck. It also helps if your comment is really valid.

        A backlink is better than NO backlink. According to Google Webmaster Tools, for a couple sites, there's a nice number of backlinks showing up with the anchor text of "scott g"!

        It doesn't hurt anything. Just keep building links else where too that are anchored the way you want them to be.

    Yes it's still have juice even you used your name as your anchor text; It's safer to use your name as your anchor text in commenting on .edu blog.

      That being said, if your trying to rank your pages for particular keywords, you will want to get the anchor text in there somehow, even if it is using the method LiamP suggested... but as Corvinus said, it will still give your site link juice, just not for your specific keyword term.

    i think its better to use your keyword in the name field. blog commenting is very helpful either done at .com or .edu bogs.

      Most .edu's and decent Blog's (especially dofollow with PR) will NOT approve "keyword" names. Plain and simple. If they do, then it's probably spammed to hell... Sometimes you do get lucky.

      Name @ My Keywords is a good suggestion and I use it frequently. I store all my Auto Approved and Manually Approved backlinks/blog comments in seperate .txt files for every backlink created to every site of mine. It should become a good habit to frequently check the status of your comment approval... If it doesn't get approved with your keyword mixed in with your name, then leave another comment with just your name. Simple stuff.

      What are you talking about? Blog commenting/getting a backlink from any domain extension is helpful...

        I do agree, however I also think you can use anchor text as well. That's what SB and Auto Approve lists are for.

          Sir yes sir! I got Scrapebox a couple of weeks ago and have burning it up! Lol! Not only for digging up high PR places to sprinkle my backlinks, but have also built up a list of about 5k AutoApprove blogs

              Having a dofollow link without anchor text does help however if possible always use an anchor text that way the SEO juice is directed more towards what you're ranking for. That way SEs know why the site is mentioning your site or recommending it. Then they'll think that likely other people looking for that term will also like your site since abc site is recommending your site for "keyword"

    It's good to use keyword while commenting on blog but having said that would also like to say that it would be good if someone places keyword in the name cz sometimes it happens that placing keyword in the post won't get the comment approved.

    I noticed in most .gov & .edu forums is that after you sign up as a free user, they don't allow you to add BB, or HTML code as your forum signature, when I assumed they would let ppl do so. If anyone knows any specific .gov or .edu forums that are PR 5 and above in Google that does let new users place signatures in their forum profiles right away, please let me know! =)

    I always do this as name

    LOSE WEIGHT = RILOSE QAWEIGHTUL or
    LOSE WEIGHT = LOSENA AWEIGHTEN

    as truly name, but there is keyword including

          IN MY PART. i agree of using your name instead of other anchor text. because in your first view of the site. your name was there so it feels that your like in Hollywood. like an artist, singers or etc which very familiar to many people in the world, just like your site. .


          i do hope you agree also with my opinion, its just an opinion but it can help others.

    Anchot Text is very important for getting back links and keyword ranking. If you giving proper keyword linking google give important that keyword for related page.

    By using Name @ Keyword Phrase, your comment should get approved the majority of the time. I've done this too, and comments are usually approved.
