I've bought some domains - about one hundred or so with PRs 1-3 - and want to consolidate these since the content on them is almost identical (just about enough to appear unique).

I'm thinking about doing a 301 redirect across the board to one site, which I believe will mean the PR will pass through ok, but I have a question:

Will the fact that the 'new' pages at the end of the 301's (the pages being slightly different) cause the search engines to think 'oh... different page' and so burn the PR pass-through?

Or, should I update the pages to the same as my new 'master-domain' first, then put the 301s in place? Or am I going about this the wrong way?

Note: the reason for wanting to do all this is that I want to relocate the domains from their existing host to my own, and I don't have ready access to the source files, so figured consolidation was the best route.

On another note: Would the ranking of these domains (which will still be hosted, in order to set up the 301s) be improved for being on seperate IP stacks, or will it make no difference?

Thanks for your insight.

Tony

      Hey Tony
If I read your question right, you have xyz.com (your new site) and you want to 301 redirect all the other 99 sites to xyz.com

First your site xyz.com must be hosted and live. On each of the other 99 sites, you can then put a 301 redirect in the .htaccess file. If they are WP blogs, then you can use the Redirect plugin.

All the PR from the home page of the 99 sites will now be passed to xyz.com without any problems.

In the Google index, it is a gradual process but over time, the search engine listings for the 99 sites will be redirected to xyz.com when clicked by users.

When this has happened and all the 301 redirects are in place and Google knows about them, the 99 sites will be phased out from the search engine results pages. Even when you type the URL of one of those 99 sites, say www.abc.com, it will take you to the xyz.com site.

For all purposes, those 99 sites will just take you to your main site xyz.com
      This is how it works.

I cannot see any advantage in hosting them on different C class servers. If they are going to be redirected to xyz.com they just need to be live, that is all. Hope this resolves your doubts.
