If their are a high amount of people are searching for a product but they are spelling it wrong and their is low competition for this wrongly spelt keyword how do you get up onto the first page on google? Do you have to spell the word wrong on content on your site or are their other ways?
Thanks,
Graham

The two most common mis-spelling exploits I have seen are:

PPC keyword bids on mis-spellings, this had been practiced more in the old days when there was no down side to putting thousands of keywords in a campaign, some used mis-spelling generator utilities, these days, big lists of keywords can hurt your quality score and bid prices.

Mis-spelled domain names, one example, someone would secure the name Amazn.com, set it up to auto forward to the Amazon store with their affiliate link.

Others would make a pirate sduplicate of a popular store site with a slightly different name selling to visitors believing they are on the real site. A lot of this activity has been shut down by cyber squatting laws, I don't have many specifics, but there can be serious legal consequences.

There's at least one service that owns a stable of mis-spelled domains, from which you can buy redirected mis-typed? traffic.

I'm not sure that creating a campaign around SEOing for an incorrectly spelled term is a good idea in a lot of cases. Google will often show you the results for the correctly spelled term if you make a common typo, and even if they don't yet, who knows if they will for that term in the future?

    Just my 2 cents.

If it has high search volume and low competition you may as well give it a shot whether it works out for you or not.

On your own site anything goes, you can target a misspelled word if you want, but I'd just have maybe a post or two targeting it, not the entire site.

Chances are someone landing on that page for that word would have misspelled it themselves in a search engine so it wouldn't damage your credibility but if you have it misspelled all over the site you may end up looking like a tard.

If you try and target a misspelled word with something like article marketing you may run into other complications, such as quality control at places like Ezine not accepting your article or even correcting the spelling themselves in the review process.

I wouldn't make it the focus of my campaign at all, but I might occasionally include the misspelled term in my marketing.

I haven't noticed as many misspelled words in the stats these days so I think Google and many of them are auto-correcting more frequently now.

That said, I agree with James. It doesn't hurt to try things anyway. If you throw enough stuff at the wall, something will stick.
