Google Changes SEO Game

If you are planning on targeted a local market, you really need to read this article: Google Changes SEO Game | Internet Marketing Strategies and Marketing Tips by Neil Shearing

It is basically about Google giving rank priority to the "Google Places" sites when a local search is performed (ex: Gym in Manhattan).

So, if you have a brick and mortar local business, this is the time to get into SEO for promotion. Otherwise, avoid basing your IM business on a local term... Just my two cents.

well, at the moment it isn't (yet) quite that bad, you'll still find plenty of search-terms where there's always one (up to 3) organic listings ABOVE the places-listings.

But, the writing is on the wall, apparently they're experimenting with only doing post-card verification, i.e. no more using a "local" phone-number which you can use from anywhere.

which of course is super-bad news for anyone doing "local" SEO in the form of ranking websites and then renting them out....

I know. But it scares me to see how fast things change online - which makes IM a very scary business.

I feel bad for those who were getting their incomes due to Google local searches. One minute they are doing well, and the minute.... BANG... all the hard work goes down to second page.

This is actually really old news. Been like this for the past 2 months or so i believe and in actual fact it is not true for all local search terms. In fact it only happens when the SEO is crap for the actual websites themselves in which case they rank lower than the google place listings, if it's better then it ranks above! They are simply trying to put more of an influence on google places/maps listings for business's and are doing a good job at that. Tim
