Google Ranking and geography.

Hi,

I am working here in the UK and over the last 2 or 3 weeks I have put in place a website to sell some CB products. So far it has done really well and in about 3 weeks my new site has climbed to position 1 on page one of google for my main keyword.

Now I was talking to a friend in Taunton USA who mentioned that when he checked my site he could see it on page 4 of Google, I checked and double checked and I could definately see it on Page 1.

This to me is confusing since my url is a .org (.com and .net had gone and I wanted to use a sepecific keyword for this) Does anyone know if Google look at Geography in terms of ranking sites, if so how does that work since this is very important for people seling into the global market.

    Not sure if geography matters, but your search history does. your search is pulling up listings related to what you have searched previously also.

    Just use rank tracker from seobook dot com to track your rankings and you will be fine - don't worry about geography.

    I had a similar question the other day, except I WANT to rank in UK but have only hit page one in US, where search volume is low for my kwp.

    Yes, geography is relevant, or certainly which Google site you use (.com or .co.uk) matters, though you must also be careful Google has not skewed your personal results, as someone pointed out.

    I have currently tried a couple of things to change this - changed target market in Webmaster Tools to UK instead of US and also set language to en-GB in my html header. Also, backlinks from within the co.uk domain are probably going to be important. You have the reverse problem it seems, but check these factors just in case. I have not seen any change after a few days but these things take time so here's hoping.
