Best Software for Keyword Research?

MS is good but its data source is Google Keyword Tool. While doing keyword research it is a good practice to have data from multiple data sources. Hence apart from any tool that uses Google data (MS, MNF), you may also consider Wordtracker. Wordtracker gets data from meta crawlers and then the data is extrapolated to give estimates of search volume.

You can then take the average of volumes suggested by both Data sources (Google & Wordtracker), which would arguably be the closest to actual search volume of a keyword.

Market Samurai pulls its data from Google, but it does so live. Whereas when you use Googles Keyword Tool the data is not live.

Don't forget that Market Samurai gives you the data in a format that is extremely usable. I started with MicroNiche Finder and never was able to make the connection. Just a flavor thing really, but IMHO between the two go with MS.

  Agreed Raviv. There is truly no better tool than this. There are easy ways to do great keyword research using the REAL keyword tool that simply cannot be done with any software. To a certain extent, software creates a nice little gap where I am easily able to find new niches and keywords whenever I need them.

We can all be adamant and believe that we use or do is the best. It is good to view objectively and not subjectively.

Any keyword tool or for that matter any software is just a tool and reduces the mundaneness of the tasks involved. It cuts down on time and increases productivity.

When it comes to keyword research, data being live or not is not the point. It is the intent of the keyword phrase (search vector) that is most important. Although search engines are very advanced today, they can get flummoxed for certain keyword queries because they are not sure of the intent of the searched word or phrase.

It is the human brain that can think contextually and analyze the intent behind the search effectively. Using good old plain commonsense, it can determine the best outcomes for the situation at hand.

Market Samurai or Keyword Elite or SE Cockpit, be it anything, they can all do the job well but in tricky situations, they may not give the best results. My 2 cents

thats true, i personally prefer word tracker but final verdict is do decided by my brain after lots of research... keyword research is the most important aspect of any online campaign .... considering that i do like to spend most of my time on doing this thing.

Yep, they update very often every time you use it... it's good and bad at the same time. If the update is a fix to problem on MS, then it's good for us.

I use a tool called Keyword Blueprint 2.0 Pro. It's got a lot of very cool features including the evaluation of keywords to make sure they are viable.

I've built 3 sites now that are ranking in the top 3 for high traffic keywords because of this beautiful piece of software.

I use a combination of Google external keyword tool, scrapebox (wonderwheel scraper) and then Market samurai.
Its a bit of a process but done properly it can be an awesome combination.

For researching keywords, I like Market Samurai best, and here's why.

I am of course aware that it pulls its data from Google Keyword Tool - but MS has tremendous added value in terms of competition research and so on. All of this could still be done by hand if you really wanted to (and, in fact I can only recommend that you become at least familiar with the process), but the convenience of having all the data from google keyword tool, yahoo site explorer, checking for title in url/title in header and so on makes it so much faster, so for me MS is worth having.

There is also MicroNicheFinder, but to me quite a few columns that it shows seems irrelevant.

Trying to decide here between market samurai and wordtracker. Im currently doing the trail for market samurai. I think the trial means they dont have a guarantee which sucks because you really need to give a product a good shot, say atleast a month.
