Are "Comments" of Value to Your Blog?

Hey warriors,

hope your eve/day is good!

Suddenly I'm getting about 5 to 10 comments a day!

Hey, I have a new blog and its getting a fair number of comments on one of the pages. I realize these are essentially other marketers(at least I believe so) placing their link in the author/url section of their comment..

I placed article in ezine, and linked it back to my blog. I made a couple of SB links to my blog as well(only 2) and suddenly lots of comments, I can't imagine only approving only a few, or there would be too many elongating the page

Question is, are they of any value to my blog?
for SEO? or Ranking?

    More comments means people like your Blog. But now with auto comments software, you find 99% of the comments are junk. I suggest you use Akismet plugin so that only genuine comments appear for your posts.

    To start with, you must install the Akismet plugin. It would capture all the spammy comments.

    To determine a comment of value, if it enhances your post/article and adds value to what you have on your site and the commenter's site is related to your niche and not some spammy site (visit their site and see what kind of site it is), then approve or disapprove the comment.

      I thinkk you it the nail on the head
      askimet is what I'll have to do...

      my blog is already slow to load, I use a shared host
      and in terms of time it often (with no cache) takes
      between 6 to 10 seconds to load!

      so I didn't want to load any more "tools" but askimet may be
      necessary! thanks for pointing me in the right direction

        If the links that were in the comment went to unsaviory websites and you approved the comment, it would not put you in a good light with Google.

    Only if they are legitimate comments. Then it can be considered "user generated content" If you want to know if these are people making the comments, install CAPTCHA or re-CAPTCHA. That will stave off the majority of the bots.

    Personally, I have found that AKISMET wasn't effective at reducing SPAM as I had hoped so I turned it off. Now, I get legit comments and AKISMET doesn't constantly stick good comments in the trash. Everybody recommends and raves about it, but the algo has been gamed as of late in my opinion.

    Akismet is the way to go. But yeah some comments may be helpful, so take time out to read the comments.
    Also visit other blogs in your niche with high PR and comment on the posts. You are allowed to leave your link. Google sees that your connecting to similar blogs in your niche and will reward you by ranking you high.
    Plus there are people who are reading comments on these high PR sites, who may navigate to your site through your comment resulting in more traffic for you.

      Definately install and use akismet otherwise as said your site will get over run with crappy off subject comments that hold no relevance.

    I've actually seen a few blogs that approve most of the comments but the spammiest ones and remove the links on the mildly spammy and use the content instead. They show up in the results (maybe) because of the steady stream of new content for googlebot to love.

    The only way you would get your comments to help you in SEO is if those are relevant! I know it sounds like crap but the thing is that the keyowords that would be used would increase KW density and also include keywords you would get from wonder wheel, hence related.

    It's good for your blog to filter all spammy comments and keep your blogs free from spams and as suggested by many here, you can use an effective plugin, Akismet is the popular one.

    But always encourage genuine people who make valuable comments, as they add value to your blog, make your blog more interactive and help in a way build a reputation for your blog and increase its popularity. Ensure that not a single genuine comment goes to spam or ignored as nothing can be more frustrating for a genuine reader or visitor.

    Not all the comments in your blog are important, some are only coming from auto comments software. There are particular tool to determine the relevance of that certain comment.
