Does anyone have any experiance with their site dancing alot? My site was previously ranked on like the 12th page for google then suddenly it shot up to the 30th or so and dissapeared for some other terms. Does this mean im in the sandbox or just dancing? My linking strategy is good i think its steady and a mix of profile forum and in text im just confused.

Wait a week or so. If it has come back up to its previous position (or close), it was just dancing. If it's in the sandbox, it could be there for a couple months, from what I hear.

It is always like this. Don't be too surprised.
Until your site gets established on the first places in a strong niche, it will always shatter all around the SERP.

type in your site URL in google search and see if your site comes up..if so NO...your site isn't sandboxed... As far as the dance goes....
one question :have you been building back links to your site? i mean at a really extreme pace and then slowed down suddenly...
if so...google usually pulls my site from #1 to 3-5 or sometimes it just disappears ....it usually jumps back after some time!

just wait and watch...and if were doing any kind of linking i personally suggest you not to stop and keep doing it...eventually your site will settle on a good page..

i suggest you outsource a few facebook/twitter updates on fiverr..usually i do this when my site settles...Works wonder's ..just try it out!

you could also get some traffic at the same time.

    Cheers

@rammonster i have been steadily linking since Jan and havent taken any drastic times off, with the exception of a few nights when the wife gets too mad

      My backlinking strategy is:

      -Analyze links using SEO Elite
-50 blog comment links/profile forum links every other day varying the anchor text and always using an ip masker.
-Started a link wheel with web 2.0 properties with the linking strategy found on the 40 day challenge and the smart passive income blog
-Using the best spinner to spin articles for article directories
-Using blog blueprint (anyone tried this by the way?)

I think im doing all i should but just frustrating. I know it takes time and maybe im just trying to think too many steps ahead.

um you should definitely think about hiring a SEO company or outsourcing it...really help's you save some time.. If not now, you should definitely consider it in the long run .
I guess Google pulls down the site every time we create links..especially if the site is new, but i have noticed it climbs back after a few days or longer sometimes... Anyways...Hope things work out for you...

        Cheers

Not too sure about others but usually my sites start dancing when i do profile links - especially younger site. Some do come back stronger while others never. After some testing I figure that start of backlinking from more reputuable sites e.g EZA, etc fro 3 months before goes into profile linking that could minimize dancing.

How about getting some video site links? You can get 15-20 high pr vid links which will be v stable for a long time and google seems to love them. Also, some .edu and .gov links won't hurt either.

Also, are you linking out to other 'solid' sites from your own? If not then you will not be perceived as offering value and so the dance will continue. Whenever I've linked out to about 10 or so well ranked sites in similar niches (not your direct competitors) my rankings stabilize pretty quickly.

Ive seen Google changing certain aspects of its alogrithms recently (over the past week). As i understand, they are trying to eliminate the ability of crap sites ranking so high with spun and poor quality content. This may affect some sites, cant say for sure, but i would wait a week or so and then check your site/sites again and see if they are back where you started. Also, ive noticed Google updating their Keyword Tool options and aspects such as CPC. They are currently trying to make search results and queries more accurate. PR's of sites have been changing to which suggests they might be doing something. Whether this is major, only time will tell i guess.

    Hope this helps

I just had a site return to page 2 from page 24. This site launched in April 2010. I got it to page 2 within a few months from launch date. To make a long story short, this site bounced from page 2 to 24 since shortly after launch.

Just this week it returned to page 2. That's almost a year of bouncing around. I've continued adding unique content (300 plus posts, most of which are over 1,000 words). My backlinking is very conservative, with most of my inbound links from published EZA articles.

I'm hoping it remains where it is now (traffic is incredible). I never threw in the towel though; instead just kept publishing content and articles off-site.

One strange occurrence is when it's way down in the SERPs, my traffic for all pages dries up. When on page 2 (for main site keyword), many of my posts rank well and attract a lot traffic (for different keywords). It seems to be either my entire site ranks well or the entire thing disappears.

yes this is something that is affecting some of us and me. I think the old sites are advantaged here since they have enough strong backlinks and seo arsenal to not drop in the rankings. The new sites that are trying to rank are facing the google dance effect.

Yea google does housecleaning every now and then..they had complains of spam showing in the results so google has decided to take a few steps...just read it....DAMN it...closed the tab...but yea....It says its looking to facebook and twitter for sites or something like that ..so if your site gets mentioned on social networking sites.... it may rank well...i think... Guess we'll just have to adapt!

Its probably on its way to rank even higher. I have heard this from many site owners and I have experienced it myself not long ago. I was trying to rank for one of my main keywords "ways to make money online" and when I ranked #11 (second page) it started dancing. For a few days, it would be on the first page (#8-10), then it would go back to the second page, after a few days it would go to 4th-5th page.

After a few weeks it started to settle down on the first page #10. And a few days latter it went to #3 and it has been there ever since.

While no one can say for sure that whats happening to you will mean the same thing (you ranking higher), from my experience and from what I have heard and red, your site is going to rank higher than what it ranks (at its highest rank) now.

One thing, I have heard that I implement while dancing was going on, is that you should not stop building links, especially if you were building lots of links quickly. Keep doing what you were doing as if everything is normal. (I dont know if that actually helps or not, just what I hear all the time from experts and what I have done that may or may not have helped me rank higher).

This is pretty typical. You said you just built your site in January, so you have to be patient. It can take anywhere from 3-6 weeks or sometimes even longer for the ranking to stabilize. It seems like you're doing all the right things with your backlinking, and it doesn't look like you're doing anything really massive which could cause your site to be sandboxed.

Just be patient and give it 2-3 more weeks for things to stabilize, but don't forget to keep backlinking (in a natural and consistent manner) till you see your site start to rise in ranking.

Great advice from satrap and paulie888. You should also be sure to mix in some high quality links with the profile and forum stuff. You can do this by offering to write guest posts for bloggers (this will include a link back to your site), carefully buying links, reciprocals, and many other strategies.

Thanks for all the feedback. In reguards to the outsourcing i believe that is also a great strategy but only once you are going enough to be able to afford it (in terms of the wallet and time). I have a friend that uses odesk and has a virtual assistant in the Phil and he raves about her. However, he did have to invest a good ammount of time to get her trained up to speed on his linking strategy and how he wanted things done. He has also been disapointed in the past before with the quality of work that sometimes can be put out, and while you can dispute it with Odesk and ultimatly get the money back it just seems like alot of work to do less work

Eventually i will get my feet wet in that arena however i figured that for the time being a better strategy would be to invest in software that i will use not only on my current website but on any future ones. This way i am still doing things myself but i also am taking a great deal of the load off my shoulders. This is what i have purchased so far and am quite happy:

      The Best Spinner
      Market Samurai
      Blog Blueprint
      SEO Link Robot
Auto Backlink Bomb (which is confusing the hell out of me at the moment i might add, i give extreme kuddos to the developer its a hell of a program but has kind of a learning curve to a noob like myself)
      Instant Article Wizard
      Article Marketing Robot
      Scrapebox

So far i think im on the right track to boosting my rankings just trying to keep it slow and steady and not go nuts with the software. Really looking forward to blasting my Web 2.0 properties with forum links

Anyone have any other suggestions on software? I figure that this should help me get google to stop dancing around with me, they seem to have two left feet and step on my toes all the time :p

It is often used the name "Google Dance" to describe the index update search engine Google. Google's index update occurs on average once a month. Can be identified by a large movement in the search results and especially by the Google cache of all indexed pages reflecting the status of Google's last spidering. But the update does not go as you switch from one thread to another at one point in time. In fact, it takes several days to complete the update the index. During this period, the old and the new index alternate on Google. At an early stage, the results of the new index occur sporadically. But later, they appear frequently. Google dances.

The name "Google Dance" has often been used to describe the index update of the Google search engine. Google's index update occurred on average once per month. During an index update there was significant movement in search results and Google showed new backward links for pages. However, in mid-2003 Google started to update it's index continuously. It appears that, still, there has to be an update of the complete index once in a while and during this time new backward links are shown. But, because of the continuous update, the effects on search results seem to be rather insignificant.
