ok, so I have found a lot of keywords in a particular niche that has little competition and quite a bit of monthly searches. The only problem is, according to google traffic estimator the esimated bid on these terms is like $0.05. Is that bad? Does that mean that my terms are not profitable? Some of these terms target products. I could really use some advice.

The estimated bid price for these terms is different in the search based keyword tool, why is this? It is actually a little higher.

It's not bad $5cents is good as long as you target buyer keywords, you'll be fine.

Think about it from your customers mind.
    target the buyer keywords only
    Are they searching
    "buy product name"
    "product name review"
    "cure product name"

You get the idea. Test which keywords convert into sales and get rid of the rest..

    Hope that helps some..

  • The "profitability" of your venture depends on your offers and monetization methods...

Are you selling products/services you developed yourself?
    Are you selling affiliate products/services?
Are you aiming for CPC or CPA income?
Are you building a list of potential customers?

In any case: You need to draw inferences from your observations, tests, results and initial inferences about:

What's exactly in the minds of people each time they use a specific keyword/keyphrase on popular SEs?

What do they consider as relevant, valuable, updated, popular, useful and beneficial search results?
Next: What do they consider as informative, educational, entertaining and useful content?
At this point: Will they buy your products/services, sign up to your mailing list, click CPC ads or fill out CPA offers for the benefits those actions could provide them?

The google keyword tool's competitiveness? column indicates the relative number of advertisers bidding on the word, which usually reflects the profitability others have found in the keyword.
I would think the lower cost less competitive keywords are still useful, something converts only 1/4 as often is still OK if the cpc is 1/4 as much. I would probably put those non buyer keywords in their own separate groups that go to more friendly, informative pages with a softer sell.

There are a number of considerations to make when choosing keywords in the AdWords network. The most expensive keywords, the ones with the highest bids, are not necessarily the most popular or the most profitable keywords; they are simply the most competitive ones. You are going to want to find niche keywords that correspond with the product, service or website that you are offering while maintaining profitability. The AdWords network is sometimes so saturated for a specific keyword or group of keywords that the only way to generate a profit at all is going to be through niche keywords that are searched for without being overrun with competitors; in brief, find opportunities appropriate to your goals.
