Question About PR, Backlinks & Guest Posting

I've noticed that the homepage of a blog might be PR5, but then when I go to an individual post the PR is 0. If I write a guest post on a PR5 blog, but my post is PR0 then what's the point of writing on a PR5 blog? You know what I'm saying? I think this is true of ezine also?

    If you guest post on a blog, you're linking back to your site from that PR5 blog. Your guest post page is PR0 because it's new and not indexed, but that doesn't matter, because you're getting a quality backlink from a very good blog. (At least, that's my understanding of how it works. Could be wrong.)
