Do you think it's better to own a blog that's ranked on the first page of Google or is writing and submitting hundreds of articles on the subject the best option?

well why put all your eggs in one basket when you can do both!!

You can use the same article and publish it on your blog FIRST and get it indexed. next, you can submit the same article to article directories. Its original content, its your article, you wrote it, You can use it wherever you want. you will have no problems!

Depends on your keyword. You could be in the number one spot for a term that gets very little searches. But in saying that if traffic is good, who wouldn't want their blog on first page. Articles are good to, but to get ongoing traffic they need to be ranking as well, so much of a muchness really.

My answer is both as well.

It is really hard to pick one or the other.

An optimized blog can get Google Love on its own without inbound links, in most niches.

But I don't write articles to get Google Love, I write articles to capture eyeballs and drive CTR traffic to my websites.

Make sure those "eyeballs" become Buyers.
I don't think your bank would let you deposit "eyeballs" in your account...
No pun intended. Just adding some humor to make our day easier.

    The "best option" for what?

Many people would say it's the best option for owning a blog that's ranked on the first page of Google. "Submitting hundreds of articles" isn't an alternative to owning a high-ranking site/blog, Diane, though it can be a way of owning a high-ranking site/blog. There wouldn't be much point in submitting hundreds of articles anywhere without having your own site/blog, and once you have one, the aim would surely be for it to become a high-ranking one? (But don't forget, as explained above, to publish all those articles first on your own site/blog, and submit them to other places only after that!). So I'm saying "both", as well.

      Yep I would agree, BOTH!

I didn't used to think blogs were really worth the time and effort, but
since starting my own blog I have been converted to the wonderful world of blogging.

Search engines just seem to devour the content and it seems that blog
posts get indexed very quickly too.

I have tried article marketing, with great success too, so both gets my thumbs up.

      Alex.

Depends if you're working short term or long term on a keyword, and if you're concentrating on one keyword in all your articles or a distinct keywords in each article. Some people write articles on ezines, concentrating on one keyword and they backlink to a single page where they sell a product, this can lead to fast results and sales, since ezine articles rank very fast.

    • As others already said, both. But if you had to chose one over the other, it would be the blog. Always have to ask yourself if you want to build your business or support the one of the article directory?

It must be both of them to perform well as an seo. A great combination that will surely rank your site in google rankings.
