Do backlinks to main page help blog posts rank better also?

If a site has a lot of backlinks to it, does that make it easier to rank the blog posts for other keywords or products?
Say for instance "reviewsite.com" has a main page with lots of backlinks and they post on their blog a review of "x product" which is unrelated to their main page (where all the backlinks are). Do all those backlinks to the main page help the the posts rank better in the serps for the phrase "x product" as well, Or do they need lots of backlinks to the post also? :confused:
