Keyword advice, please!

If your best exact match keyword is really bad english, which you can't incorporate in a sentance, how would you get round this.

For instance, nobody puts the word "the" in a search so, Keyword "cat urinating in house", I would prefer to use "cat urinating in the house"

Is this the short coming of using exact match keywords?

This is me going back to basics after people on the forum helped me to see a mistake I was making with exact match keywords.

So i'm hoping to get it right this time.

  I'd like to know about this too. I've done some SEO freelance writing, and when I have to use EMK it makes me cringe. Nothing like writing an article about Greeting Cards Christmas with no leeway to change the words around. Makes for a terrible article. I'm curious about this too though because I'm working toward some SEO content for a client.

  Hi Farmgirl, I'm glad it's not just me that cringes at bad use of english caused by keywords.
  
  As you see it in articles regularly maybe there is no work around?

  I think it's all about what people are searching about.
  
  I mean when you type in google for the specific key phrase
  
  as example "cat urinating in the house" .....type it with the quotes,
  
  it comes up with more competition than the key phrase
  
  "cat urinating in house"

  Don't worry about articles of speech (or whatever they're called) like THE AN AND etc.
  
  Google will usually ignore those words in the results. You'll see what I mean when you do a search.
  
  Example: I searched why is my cat urinating on the carpet just like that, no quotes, no punctuation.
  
  Google hit on the words "my cat urinated carpet' and not 'why is on the', because those words are too common.
  
  I hope that helps. Oh, and most people don't know a browser search bar from the Address bar, so don;t worry about someone using quotes too much in actual search.

How are you finding the long tail keywords? I would use Googles keyword external tool and search using exact match to see if they at least get some search volume.

Usually if you can rank for the core keyword without "the" , "and" , Google will usually rank you for different variations of the long tail keyword as well...
