Alright, this is purely theoretical, but is it possible to outrank any site for any keyword? We often measure this as a difficulty level, but isn't it more accurate to say it's an estimate of how much of an investment of time is needed? Comments?

It's a matter of available resources, time and money. With enough of both, I'd say theoretically you could build enough authority to outrank almost any site.

    Within the realm of reason...

I mean if you're going up against a site that already has 10,000 back links; chances are you're not going to out rank them on their primary keyword.

But you might be able to out rank them on secondary keywords or long tail keywords. That's perfectly within reason.
