Hello Warriors
I consider myself to be reasonable intelligent, but for the life of me, I cannot get my head around anchor text. What I would like to know is:
1. what is it
2. the importance of it, and
3. how should I use it and where

Could someone please explain to me or refer me to a well explained explanation on this topic, as I have read a few and I am still confused.

    Anchor text is when you hyperlink a text. In plain terms.
    You're linking any word or phrase that can be placed onto a website.

    Bottom line: it's a word, sentence or phrase linking to a website.
    My example is one way to create an anchor text.

    For Example, this is how you setup an anchor text.

    <a href="http://www.example.com">Text Here</a>
    after you're done setting that up on a website,
    you will see the two words "Text Here" that are clickable
    and pointing to the site http://www.example.com"

    Setting up Anchor Text can help your website grow on search engines,
    as long as you build backlinks that are similar to your industry or category,
    and you optimize principles of seo on your website for long-term results.

    In fact, speaking of anchor text, my signature is a live example of one.
    Which is right under this message, if you want a live example of anchor text.
    That is how it looks but in most cases for SEO purposes, you would optimize
    the text with keyword phrase you want to rank onto search engines with...

    If I set up a link that says "Click Here" than the anchor text is "Click Here". Don't be confused by the terms - the text that is used for the link anchors it.

      You use an anchor text when you are linking to a website that you want to rank for. The way you link to your website controls where it shows up in the search rankings.

      For example if you have a weight loss website and you’re trying to rank for the term weight loss, the clickable link should be weight loss…and that is the anchor text.

    I think it is important to remember a few things about backlinking

    Anchor text
    try to make it relevant but do not go get 100 backlinks saying
    WEIGHT LOSS PILLS in the anchor text,
    this looks very unnatural to Google

    I might if I had a site weightlosspills.com
    put this in the anchor text
    1. weightlosspills.com
    2. weight loss pills site
    3. weight loss pills help
    4 problems with weight loss pills
    5. weight loss pills reviews

    See what I mean about varying the link text but you can still try to keep the main kws in the links if possible

    Also do not for\get in backlinking to deep link, do not link back to the main TLD url all the time, link back to the subpages, and in those subpages put kws in the anchor text about the content of the subpages, not just the main site kws

    you have a site about Muscle cars
    you have subpages on
    Camaros
    Mustangs
    Corvettes
    GTOs

    your deep links anchor text should be about Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes, GTOs if possible

    Google places importance on the text surrounding a link. Anchor text is technically the closest text to the link, it IS the link. This is why it's important to use your keyword in your anchor text - so that the search engines think this link is leading to a page all about that keyword. And if your page is seen to be all about that keyword then it will be considered more relevant, and if it is considered more relevant -increased ranking.
