Google indexing (very much a 'noob question)

Hello everyone,
Please excuse this utterly stupid question. I have an IT background and am very technical person but cannot seem to figure out this very easy question:

How do I get my site indexed by Google quickly?

It was created about 5 days ago. My first attempt at affiliate marketing. I have created articles on it, used the All-in-one-SEO plugin (it is a Wordpress site), pinged it, created links for it on a ton of social media sites (using Bookmarking Demon), set it up with Google on their analytics/webmaster site, and countless other ways that I looked up on the net.

Should it be taking this long? Does anyone have a method to get it indexed quickly?

Thank you very much in advance for your help,
Peter

It does happen, though not often. My websites normally get indexed within a day or two tops.

Try installing the "Google XML sitemaps" plugin.

Add your website to Google Webmaster Tools and see if you get any messages/crawl errors and if your sitemap has been indexed.

Make sure that your WP privacy settings aren't blocking search engine bots.

Thanks for the advice. I do have the XML plugin installed but I will try to submit the sitemap manually to see if that helps. And try your other tips.

Again - thanks from a 'noob.

You shouldn't ping it really, you could do some social bookmarks. Google will find it soon I'm sure!

I think social bookmarking can help in indexing. Use stumble upon or other bookmarking sites for fast indexing.

Yes all the above suggestions are really good, my new sites get indexed in a few hours if I do a combination of the Google XML Sitemaps plugin, and tweet the link of a post, add it to Webmaster tools. I know E. Brian Rose has a tool that gets the site indexed in 30 minutes and that tool works, not sure if EBR sells it or not.

Here is my two step process. It has only failed me once to get a site indexed within 24 hours.

1.) Submit site URL to Digg.com.
2.) Submit site RSS feed to Feedage.com

I'm not joking when I say this has worked every time except for once. That one time was an html site and not a blog--all of my other sites have been blogs. If it wasn't for that "one damn time" I could say this is a guaranteed way to get indexed quickly.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I think I am just getting antsy about getting this up! I just manually submitted the sitemap.xml. Need to double check the wordpress settings too!

Submit your website to google bookmarks, digg, delicous, reddit, yahoo buzz and you should be good to go.

It should not be a problem for fast Google indexing since you are bookmarking to many top social bookmarking sites by using great tool like Bookmarking Demon.

If you're using Wordpress, social bookmark, add your sitemap to Google webmasters, make sure privacy setting isn't turn on you will normally get indexed in 24 hours. ocassionally it can take a few days.

If you have other blogs that are crawled regularly add a backlink to it/them.

Not sure what the rush is but just keep backlinking and adding content if that was what you were planning to do once it was indexed.

It will get indexed and follow a natural progression (hopefully up the search rankings).

I want to repeat what two of them above said. Some times by default when wordpress is installed they block the Google crawlers to access your pages. You will find it at the top (inside your admin panel). It's basically robot.txt file that has message to google bot not to index the site. So make sure that is turned on.
