What really works for new niche-sites?

Hi, this question is related to a specific type of site I usually build, being Amazon review sites. I am looking for a method/package I can reuse over and over to bring bring my sites to number 1, specifically backlink-wise.

I say number 1 because I always make sure it's doable, meaning the top 10 sites will be PR0 and usually won't have more than 100 backlinks, in most cases even not more than 20 or 50.

I'll explain what I'm doing now and what usually happens:

1) I create a Wordpress blog
2) I put 2-3 reviews on it, to begin with
3) I put 1 article on it, related to the products (a "buying guide" for example)
4) Install All-in-One SEO
5) Submit Sitemap to Google

Now, after doing this I leave the site sitting for a couple of days. What I keep seeing return is this: The first 1-3 days my site enters google ranging somewhere from position 5-15 for the main keyword, so not bad for new site without backlinks. Then after those first days, it disappears. By disappearing I mean no search results for the main keyword or seconary keywords. Only when you type in exact matches " " it displays results, and sometimes these are even outranked by sites who don't have the exact match.

Ok, at this point I'd like to know 2 things:

1) Why is this happening?

Even though my site has no backlinks at this time, I see plenty of others with no backlinks sitting in the top 10 with less content. If I were to leave it like this, you think it would return by itself? How long would this take (weeks, months,...?)

2) What is the best way to go from there?

Obviously, start backlinking... but what I'm interested in is which backlinks EXACTLY are best for this SPECIFIC case. I want to do this as cheap as possible. Some possibilies:

- start doing backlink yourself: not an option, just don't want to do it
- blast package: 5000+ backlinks of which a small percentage stick and get indexed over time
- limited amount high PR forum profile links package (usually 250-500)
- limited amount of EDU/GOV links package (usually 25-50)

Which one do you think is most effective and why?

Maybe long post but I really want some answers. Try keeping it structured so mentioned which question you're answering if possible.

Thanks, much appreciated

    1. Are you using an exact match domain? And by that I mean a .com, .org, or .net without any dashes or additional characters/words? Would definitely suggest this...

    2. Is your content unique? Are you only scraping or borrowing from other sites for the reviews? Unique content is key...

    3. Is the content enough? You say you put 2-3 reviews, but how many words do they have? Would suggest 400-500 words at least.

      1) not exact, i use exactmatchreviews.net

      2) Yes it's unique, but when talking about these products, there's always going to be overlap and a lot of similar words and phrases. I only copy 1 short testimonial in the end directly from Amazon.

      3) The reviews are at least 600-700 words

Not really looking for the best result. I'm looking for a single backlink packet or so that will get me to number 1 in say 80-90% of cases with minimal effort, as in, outsourcing 1 order. In the case it doesn't, then I can start adding the methods you describe.

Actually besides the testimonial i also had the specs copied from Amazon (you know them, the 3-4 lines bullet lists). i just removed these and replaced them with an printscreen image containing the same text... guess what...not even 2 hours later and I'm back at #14 where I started right after the site came online.

Anyone else think this is a REALLY strict and severe measure from Google. I mean, all I did was take in each of the 3 reviews from 700+ words 4 lines of amazon text away, and that should justify the difference between not ranking and spot #13.

well at least I learned that the small things can make a huge difference, and what definately not to do. It gives me confidence finding my site at this position without a single backlink for a 18000 exact match keyword. Now the linkbuilding can begin...

If you think you have performed all the necessary SEO methods, perhaps that problem has something to do with Google dance.

It might ofcourse, but like I explained in my post above, it really looks like Google did penalize me for that small amount of copied text...

Yes, it's the G Dance. You get 'slapped' to the supplemental results. If you do a nice variety of SEO methods it'll eventually pop back up to where it was when they realize your site has value.
