The RIGHT way to effectively make use of profile backlinks

Figured I'd just make this post into a thread...

When implemented the correct way, profile links can be extremely valuable and effective - they're my primary method of linkbuilding. Here's how:
  • High-PR forums (these have come to be known as "Angela and Paul style")
  • Dofollow
  • Anchor text (the site allows anchor text)
  • Double passing - register for the site, then come back a week later and drop the links in. This way, the attrition rate is much lower.
  • Get them indexed. A few ways:
    • Combine the links into RSS feeds and submit to RSS directories.
    • Social bookmark the feeds and/or the links themselves
    • Send more profile links to these profile links (known as a pyramid)
    • Backlink Energizer (my favorite)
    • some combination of these, and/or other methods.

The reason the usual "500k Super Ultra Spammy Blast Backlink Package!" idea/system/service doesn't work is that it lacks most or all of the things above.
#backlinks #effectively #make #profile

Nice post John, this is a good lesson for a lot of people who are just spamming profile backlinks. It also saves you energy in indexing.

This is a great method and exact steps to build successful profile backlinks.

I would like to add that not everything is about 'set and forget' with backlinks.

You must maintain a relationship with your profile in some ways to avoid
getting banned or remove of link after days, weeks or months.

In fact, showing removal of links on a consistent basis can hurt your rankings.

I would try to build links using a set system such as; create 100 accounts,
setup basic profile names, dob, about me section and anything else you want
to add... Then go back in few days and setup your signature links.

I would use relevant links don't mix up your links with other niches.
Such as; posting 1 link about Weight Loss and another link about SEO.

This can show unrelevent outbound links being displayed.
Google weights your link much less than if the links are relevant.

Mixing up backlinks in your signature link is basically shooting yourself in the foot.
Don't do it! it looks bad. Backlinks isn't a new system but it's in fact a red flag
when people go around spamming links and not posting signature links that are related.

The backlinks in my sig aren't really for SEO purposes. They're rather part of a strategy that Terry Kyle calls a 'signature surge.' I also use it to get my sites indexed quickly. In other words, I don't expect to get any real SEO link juice from them.

Backlink surges can work pretty well, and thats a fact, but to add to that they are also a good way to get sites indexed.. everyone uses ping sites, meta indexing, and softwares that do those two things automatically, dont you think that looks spammy?

of course, it is a blast of links that are all of a sudden shoved in an SE's face.. BUT you cant forget that they have to find content in some manner or another... i would say that it is better to use forum sig's because your posts are coming from a website that is more reputable than a spammy ping site.

Yea, and usually with a signature surge they won't all get picked up at the same time, the indexing will be spread out over a number of days as all the different posts get crawled.

They all see to want feed titles and descriptions. Would you basically just title that rss feed "<key word> and describe it as "<keyword> ideas and advice" or do you title it something more benign like "Interesting People" and describe it as "Friends I've met along the way"?

Put another way, what are your thoughts on rss feed titling and descriptions that will avoid having the RSS feed of profile link/s you submit flagged as spam?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and feedback you're willing to provide.

      Cheers.
Actually, I advocate using random titles and descriptions for your feeds, not something related to your keywords. The feed aggs want to see something interesting, so give it to 'em.

Submit to multiple aggregators and even make multiple feeds with the same links so they get crawled more. Remember, just because G doesn't index a profile doesn't mean they haven't seen and credited your link.

Some sites don't allow anchored links, some do. Try to put them in using HTML ahref code. Without anchor text, only your URL will show, which doesn't do you much good.

Double passing - instead of registering for a site and putting links in your profile all in one 'pass,' register today and then go back a week from now and sign in and put links in your profile.

Backlink Energizer is a wonderful tool that helps get your links indexed.

You can use a site like links2rss.com to make the feeds and then go to a few of the aggregators and submit them yourself or use a service or tool like RSSbot from Incansoft. They also offer SocialBot which is a good social bookmarking software.

I have to agree with this.

I have previously tested Sick Submitter with about 1000 high pr profile links and saw very little results despite a large number of those links being indexed within a few weeks.

If you are looking for an impact in on Google rankings then a strategy such as placing link in relevent forum posts is a far far better strategy.

Where I have found a limited use for profile links has been in getting pages indexed quickly with minimal effort. Once I create a few pages on a new site I blast it with profile links so that Google knows it is there. You could acheive the same results with social network promotion services however so again profile links are not the best tool for this job either.

    Hi,
Make sure you have links coming in to as many pages as possible. What does it tell a search engine when other web sites are linking to different pages on your site? That you obviously have lots of worthwhile content.Make it easy for your visitors to social bookmark your website, creating important links that the search engines value. There are plenty of free social bookmarking widgets available.

How come no one really mentions a method for Authority Linking ?

I think authority linking has a lot to do with it here...

Authority Linking is getting your site listed on sites that already have Page Rank 6+ and they have ranking on the same keywords your pages do but they have Position #1 on Google and you have Position #10 > and you make arrangements for that #1 Position site to add your link on their page for improvements and relevance to yours.

This is normally a difficult route. However, it's not the case with similar niches.

You can truly get targeted traffic and appear as an authority if you can get this done.

True, but these types of links are usually tough to get, especially if your desired source knows SEO and doesn't want to give you a link.

Then I see google indexed the thread within seoforum within 30 minutes even though there was no reply. And after almost 4 replies after 3 hours I saw google indexed warriorforum thread.

Conclusion: Google gives different amount of weight to different forums. We need to collect forums google love best. I think a list of 100 forums can do extremely good job.

Linklicious is a pinging service, not an indexing service. Look to the SERPs, not the index numbers. Those numbers are constantly in flux as google changes what is in the index. However, SERPs are the ultimate goal so you can get people to your sites and make some money.

If we wanted we could build an indexing service that just killed it. But I don't believe in that type of service at all - it's just smoke and mirrors that some people get hung up on instead of figuring out why their sites aren't ranking.

Indexing is a function of backlinks to the page, page content, page age, domain, and who knows what else.

That said, Linklicious will help your indexing some. We just don't want to preach it because in our tests it doesn't cost justify.

Now that is an insane amount of work for a petty profile link. I don't mean to be rude, but just being blunt. Is your strategy spot on? Absolutely! The problem though is it REALLY worth your time and energy for these kinda links? By the time you wasted all of this energy and spent countless hours forcing these profiles to be indexed you could have built some high quality backlinks that will do something with your rankings.

Heck, if your that adamant about getting profile links atleast outsource this work. I couldn't even imagine how many countless hours it would take to see real ranking results manually building profiles as recommended in the first post. Ouch!
