Category base of wordpress

I am sure everyone of you is facing this problem:

http://www.website.com/category/categoryname

I am also looking for the solution but I am just unable to find it. It is getting impossible to remove the /category/ from the URL.

Please any suggestions will be helpful. I have already tried permalinks and it is not possible to remove the /category part using permalinks. If you want more explaination on waht I am trying to say then please visit:

There are some plugins available to do this but they are not compatible with the latest wordpress.

    I have all my WP Category URLs setup like this: hxxp://www.website.com/categoryname/

      you can do but you have to remove the thing like /%category%/ from custom permalink structure.

      first select any from above four options then and then click on custom structure and then remove category tab , its easy . i m using it on all my blog .
