    Buy an aged domain and build it... My suggestion.

    No point in redirecting from that URL to your site unless the domain magically ranks on page one for your search terms, or if that old domain still gets traffic.

    You will receive no backlink love so it's pointless. I'm sure the PR is dead and gone (if it ever had any).

    The only way a redirection would benefit you is if the old domain is still getting visitors.

    Well, you might be better off staying with the aged domain and use it for SOMETHING. If not, you can do a 301 redirect to tell google and the other search engines the site has permanently moved so you will get SOME of the link juice and PR from the aged domain.

    I would do neither unless it's a domain you are desparate for. I would find my own domain name based on the niche I'm looking to enter. Page Rank and traffic are easy to claim if you get it right at the start.

      If the aged domain has retained PR, then obviously you would get some PR juice just like you would from a High PR DoFollow backlink.

      As for backlinks, no your site will not have an increase in backlinks - Even if the aged domain has backlinks. Those links will be redirected to your site when clicked on, but the backlink that is built to the aged domain is built to the aged domain... Not your URL.

      I've 301 redirected several websites which had hundreds, and thousands, of backlinks built to them... The backlinks don't count.
