Low Search Volume Keywords

Hello All - I'm new to this forum, and to IM. I've been doing a lot of reading and doing some research trying to pin down a good niche for me to start with. There's definitely a lot of information to digest when it comes to IM.

With regards to picking a keyword - is search volume a real indicator of how well a site will convert? I've got some really good keywords with OCI greater than 70% - but monthly search volumes are 100-350 for exact phrase matches. These keywords have low competition, so they will be relatively easy to rank for.

I know that the general rule is 1000 monthly searches for a given keyword - so using this benchmark are these keywords not worth targeting since they don't seem to have the higher search volumes?

Has anyone seen success or failure from targeting low search/low competition keywords. I'm trying to figure if it's worth the effort to create a site, get the domains, and rank for these keywords.

Thanks in advance and any insights would be greatly appreciated.

No, search volume is not connected to conversion.
The search term is the clue to conversion

    'How to build a shed?'
    'Where to buy a shed?'
Which searcher do you believe is looking to spend.

I would take 10 of the latter over 100 of the former.

Keep in mind, they still have to be sold.

Thanks for the reply - that's pretty much what I was looking for. I guess what it boils down to then is that the clues are all in the search term - and even then it's only one part of the equation.

So to add to your example, would you go about securing a domain such as wheretobuyashed.com, then create a site and try to rank/optimize around that term?

        Yes, I would.

Those keywords will be fine because the OCI of 70% compensates for the lack of monthly search volume. Now, just make sure your keyword is either a product people are searching for, that way they can buy it and make you a nice profit.

I think the fact actually depends of the efforts you are paying for it sometimes it is seen that with very low keyword volume people got success and sometimes with very high volume they failed.
