Google Dance, What is it? and how do I stop it?

This question has probably been asked a thousand times before but it is new to me, and I need some help or advice please.

I have built 2 review sites after taking a course I found on WSO. Both of my sites I have been building links to slowly for about 2 months. I have built them through forum profiles, article marketing, and blog commenting. Site #1 took about two weeks to get to the first page of google for my main keyword, and it stayed there for about 3 weeks, and I have been building about 5 to 10 backlinks to it consistently, then all of a sudden I checked on the site for the keyword and it has disappeared. It has been over a week now and it is nowhere to be found. I also had 6 keywords that I was building backlinks to and they were all ranking on pages 2-3 and they are gone also, all except one that is stuck on page 6.

Site two I also have been doing the same backlinking stradegy for and I have never hit page one for any of my keywords, but I can still find them. they are all on pages 4-8 on google.

Can anyone tell me what could be going on? Is it the Google dance as they call it, is it something I should worry about? Or is my site lost forever? Any help, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My sites dance all the time, even some which are almost two years old. As soon as i make some links i see some dances, sometimes -40 positions, then two days later they're up again.

In fact, i THINK there is no way to do off-site seo (link building) without seeing sites dancing.

The problem is my site has not ranked in the past week. I just thought it was strange that my main keyword ranked on the first page for 2 weeks and was slowly moving up the page, then bam it is nowhere to be found for over a week. Is this something to worry about, or is my site fine. One of my keywords is still ranking on page 6.

Has anyone ever experienced this with on of their sites. I was wondering what I could have done wrong so I don't do it again.

It is not uncommon for a site to jump around in the google rankings. THere is nothing you can do to stop it. Simply build a quality site with a relevant, quality backlinks.

Oh yes the dreaded Google Dance. I have a site that has been dancing around the entire week and when it finally came back yesterday, its gone again this morning.

I am tired of worrying about it and decided to move on.

Thanks for answering my question. I guess I just won't worry about it. It just kind of sucks because it is the first site that I built and was actually making me a little money. Hopefully it will come back.

Yes this happens - one of my sites just went from position 4 to 77 just today, but I wait and see what happens in a couple of days

Yep, it can be gone for a week or more, no problem. I used to believe in the 'sandbox' but not anymore. Just keep doing what you are doing. It takes a bit of a leap of faith the first few times but now I don't sweat it at all, I know it'll be back. I have a site right now that's really done the rounds, the no. 1 spot, back down to page 40, now alternating between p2 and p4. I'll just keep gradually building it and it'll be back on page one eventually, making me money.

Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise

I've been building tons of sites lately and believe me, i know how you feel when your sites suddenly 'dance' from first page of google to nowhere at all. Some time ago i found that 4-5 of my sites were dropped from page one after being there for a couple of months. I continued backlinking to them as i normally would, but was prepared never to see them rise up again. A few weeks later (1 week for 1 of them, and more than 2 weeks for the other 2, the others i forgot) , all of them took turns to make a comeup and ranks higher than before.

Conclusion: Dancing is normal, and it will happen to many sites you own (or for the others you'll be creating in future). As long as you're building real websites without sneaky redirects or anything, and you're not associating your sites with bad networks or spammy backlinks, chances are that they'll get back with consistent backlinking.

    ceteris paribus.

You should not worry about the Google Dance that is happening with your site, just continue the link building process.
