Want to buy my first proxies to use for scraping forums with SB but not sure which is best 10 shared proxies or 1 private ?

They both cost about the same but will 1 private proxie work as well as 10 shared for scraping ??

Just seen Proxy Bonanza no longer allows scraping with SB so any other companys offer a shared proxie deal like they did ? the others seem lots more expensive or should i just buy 1 private for $9.99 pls advise

Thanks Jim

Unless you want to spend a lot of money, for scraping and checking PR I would go with free proxies. I never use less than 200 proxies for scraping. If you are doing a fair amount of scraping, you'll burn through 10 proxies pretty quick unless you use a significant delay. But then doing that makes it take forever to get through a big keyword list.

For posting and pretty much anything else, I'll use private proxies.

just buy an auto approve list. Saves you a lot of time.

Then just buy private proxy for posting.

I guess this is a question of your luck. If you buy shared proxies and someone else already got them banned on Akismet and many forums, then you might not get much out of them.

With a private proxy you are holding its fate in your own hands.

Those lists get spammed to death and become worthless pretty quickly. Or the webmaster will close it off and moderate it to aleviate the spam.

I have used a few services and I have found SquidProxies.com has some of the best proxies. I have purchased 20 private proxies and have found the speed to be very good.

Most proxy provider no longer support scrapebox.

Here's a free list of proxy, just copy and paste and filter out the bad proxy.

Yeah, as a few others have mentioned, using private or shared proxies for harvesting is pretty pointless. They'll burn out FAST and you'll be unable to search with them for about 24 hours.

You need a big collection of public proxies for harvesting. Shared or private proxies can be used for most everything else.

For scraping data from Google 1 private or 10 shared won't get you far at all.

You need public, free proxies, and even then those will last for a day, sometimes only hours even.

There's a variety of service providers on BlueFart forums that offer those kinda services. This really isn't the place to talk about them though.

You must be either a real power user or you have bad dedicated/shared proxies. I personally scrape thousands and thousands of URLs, check links, rankings, PR with 10 private proxies and never have issues. Please check out my link I have had nothing but success with these proxies.

It really had little to do with the quality of the proxies. When you are scraping together a list of 500,000 sites and checking the PR on each of them, 10 proxies will burn out before you get 20% of the way done. That is unless you use the delay setting, but then you might as well come back in about 3 days for it to be done.

I have Scrapebox so I understand the volumes of search requests needed. Hmmm I guess my idea of a lot of scraping is less than 500,000 but I have never had my proxies blocked. If you are using Scrapebox professionally like JSProjects I can see where his opinion does count and 10 private proxies might not be enough but for the majority of us here as IMers that don't run a SEO related business 10 private proxies is plenty.

The problem when you are harvesting and your proxies get blocked is that you probably won't even notice it. Scrapebox doesn't give you any kind of alert message.

So you might miss thousands and thousands of good websites without even realizing it.

If you sniff around, it is easy to find some good public proxies that aren't getting hammered to death by every Scrapebox user around. I'll bet if you run a decent sized harvesting project with 500 public proxies versus your 10 private proxies, the public ones will bring back a lot more results.

I tested it myself a couple of times. I was amazed at the results and have never used private proxies for harvesting since.

I just wanted to clarify something in this thread.

I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from buying proxies, and the ones Melissa has recommended may be fabulous.

I'm just saying 10 may not be enough for Scrapebox. I would look for at least 20-40.
