Hi Warriors,

I have been trying to rank for one of the keywords and I got to number one in Google in phase match.

The issue is that this kewyord is having 6,600 Monthly Global Searches in broad match but only 74 in phrase match.

I suppose that phrase match ranking does not mean anything. Does it?

6600 monthly Global searches? Sorry to say this, but you probably messed up your keyword research.

yup you should look for exact or very least phrase match. Target those keywords that have 1000 or more local searches for the country that you are targetting.

      Regards,
It is not clear for me why should I look for exact or phrase match. When regular people are searching for something in Google normally they type what they are searching for without quotes or brackets. Shouldn't the broad match be the real gauge of the number of people searching for this term.

exact search is what you should have consider in the first place because normal people do not search for a term with quotes.

Just remember that normal google search users do not go for phrase match or exact match. They usually do not even know those terms.

Since I am an internet marketer I would also ask myself if the keyword phrase I am ranking for is something that people will type into search when looking for something, if I am selling or promoting a product related to what they are looking for. Ranking for such a keyword phrase would really matter.

Yes, as mentioned in above threads you need to rank well for keywords without phrase. Better, try to obtain more backlinks with your targeted keyword as an anchor text.

What you are saying makes a lot of sense to me. What I understood from your reply is that we should concentrate on ranking for the broad match. What about the traffic search? According to other Warriors I should be looking for Exact Match search numbers to find out the real number of people that I will be getting in case I ranked for this keyword.

To answer your first question. Does being number one in Google matter? Yes. A whole lot. In fact, there's a whole industry dedicated to just that. It just depends on which keywords you are number one for. Some people are making an entire living off just having their sites on number one for certain keywords.

when i do my keyword research i actually do exact match. phrase match will take care of itself but ive heard using phrase match is "better" than exact match but ive had more success doing it the other way, seems to common sense to me to want to know exactly how many searches a specific keyword gets per month.

74 phrase/month means you wont get any traffic, AT ALL.

    Sorry.

I don't know why no emphasis is placed on broad match what so ever.

If I want to target the keyword (best dog training), it shows 8100 broad match searches but only 480 exact searches.

I put myself in the searcher shoes. When I want to search for the best dog training program I enter the word as it is without any quotes or brackets. This is how most of the searchers do.

So, if I am on Google page one for broad match then my site will be displayed 8100 monthly and not 480 times.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

OK, here's how I understand it - broad match tell you all the times DOG TRAINING appears, in ALL searches. So it includes "best dog training", and maybe even "training a small dog" (maybe someone will correct me on that one).

So if you are optimising for "dog training" then fine, maybe you will rank top ten for that exact phrase - but wait, it only gets 74 searches per month! There is NO guarantee you will also rank for the other 8000 variations like "best dog training videos".

So as I understand it, that is why you need to look at exact match, unless you are building out a big authority site and you want to see the overall potential of a keyword phrase.

Is no. 1 important? Funnily enough I have a site that had a BETTER Adsense CTR when it was sitting in position 4, below the shopping results, than at position one! Interesting eh? Maybe the shopping results were drawing the eye of actual buyers, who were then more likely to click. Worth thinking about, I reckon, though has not much to do with the OP.
