What is a Backlink? and how do i do it?

I am a beginner IM and I have been trying to make money online for four months with no results,and I have heard you backlink articles it helps a lot in promoting your site,so I am wondering what are backlinks?and how do I do it?

    You write a quality article, add a resource box which links back to your site and then upload it to article directories such as Ezinearticles, Go Articles etc. It's not hard, but it is a lot of work. There are also services where you can have it done for you. I happen to write articles like this for a living if you're interested and I'm running a special right now for members of the Warrior forum.     I'm guess that you have no submitter software or any software that you can use to get backlinks which means you are going to be doing it all yourself.

    The best place for newbies to get their backlinks from are from places like wikispaces, tumblr, webnode, facebook, wordpress, blogger and other web 2.0 properties as contextual links (links from related content), they are very powerful, I totally depended it on them for my first site and they never disappointed me.

    Another easier ways is also using Social bookmarking service. Fast tagging and posting to all major social websites - SocialMarker.com for your sites, the bookmarking sites there are top quality and will surely increase your serps. If you are using wordpress then I suggest you use backlink plugins like wp syndicator, wping.fm and also Ping.fm / Update all of your social networks at once! to help automate your backlink processs, they will help you a great deal.

      Use all of the most popular social bookmarking websites (such as Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit).

      Use article submissions and create links through high quality content. Ezinearticles works the best for this.

      Try blog commenting or guest blogging on other blogs related to your niche.

    A backlink is a link to your site. There are tons of ways to get them, you can buy them, automate them with paid software, or build them manually yourself. If you are building them manually, try blog commenting, social bookmarking, and placing it in your forum signature for now, also commenting on related forums for your niche is great too.

    The important things about getting backlinks are:

    1) Try to get them on related sites. Authority sites if you can.
    2) Related text on the page helps too.
    3) Be sure to choose your keywords that you are optimizing for wisely first. Then make sure your backlings have your keywords in the anchor text.
