Many business owners and internet marketing professionals are looking for the fastest way to increase page rank. In may respects this is the quest for the holy grail of internet marketing. For those who may not know, page rank is a number assigned by Google according to their secret algorithm that is believed to be highly relevant to how high a page is placed in the search results. I am here to tell you that the page rank number you can see is certainly not everything when it comes to the ranking in search results.

There is no clear way on how to get pagerank as Google changes its algo from time to time...

Unless your objective is to sell advertising space on a website, PR is meaningless.

I'd much rather be #1 in Google with PR0 than be PR5 without the ranking.

But the answer is to backlink from high PR sites. I picked up a single solid PR6 link, and my site shot fairly quickly to a PR5.

More quality Backlinks = Better Pagerank. You need to get really quality backlinks, have unique content and Ping all.

Google isn't updating pagerank all that often anymore. I don't think there is a lot of benefit of focusing on it. Getting anything above a 4 is going to be long term, unless you can get a link from a high pagerank page.

PR is changing 24/7. Google use to take a snapshot once every 2-3 months and push it to their toolbar, but over the last couple years that period has been getting further and further apart. They only pushed it about 2 times last year.

Anyway, you shouldn't be focusing on PR unless you're selling links or flipping a website. I'll quote a post I wrote on it recently.

I have many websites that have 0-2PR and outrank websites that have been around for much longer and have a much higher PR than me.

The only factors you should be concerned with are your position in search results and checks in your bank account.

The main ways to increase page rank are: domain age, quality content, high CTR when your website listing appears in search results, and backlinks. There's a lot of others, but those are the three most-niche-non-specific ones.

Thanks for all the input. I really appreciate it. My reason for wanting a higher Pagerank is because I feel it will get keywords to rank better.

      Am I wrong?

That's what I thought also, but it seems that if PR0 are beating higher PR sites then its not all about page rank. I am going to stop getting paranoid about my page rank and just focus getting backlinks to boost its google search rankings, if PR comes it will be a bonus.

        Don't know, to be honest.

All I know is that when I'm checking the competition in Market Samurai, I frequently see PR0 stuck ahead or between high PR sites.

If it seriously mattered, the SERP's would roughly correspond to the PR.

But consider this, I have an authority site on 'Judo Book Reviews' (easy to find, I'm number one on virtually any search engine) - but you won't find that PR5 site on page one for terms that it shouldn't legitimately rank for. 'Judo', for example, is legitimately held for 'judoinfo.com', which is far more directly related to the general topic.

In fact, until recently, I was only found several pages deep for the general term.

Does my PR help me move to the front page? Maybe.

But I'll bet backlinks with that anchor text are far more instrumental to SERP position than PR rank.

Just my opinion based on frequently checking competition for various niches...

Inclusion in Yahoo Directory and Dmoz would help you a lot, normally, if you do directory submission then it would help as well.

I didn't say it was the cause of increasing page rank, only one reason that people will want a higher page rank.

PR is a novelty, not a have to have. It's constantly changing, and rarely is what you see a site's PR as accurate in how strong their site is. It's a general indicator of their authority, nothing more. Sadly, a lot of people still think it's the end-all-be-all in determining a website's worth so people will chase it and judge other sites by it when they should be looking at a ton of other factors.

And yes, each link on a page will share the authority of the site and page. The more you have, the the more the authority gets distributed. How many outbound links a web page can handle before it loses authority is determined by how strong that site and page are. But again, that loss in PR from links is only a reason, not the cause.

Increase the backlink profile of your website and web page, build a betting website architecture, don't go overboard with the amount of links on a web page and you'll be fine.

I wouldn't worry too much about pagerank. More importantly, I'd do what I could to rank high for multiple keywords & phrases. The pagerank will follow.

The best way to get PR is to spend some cash on an expiring domain that already has PR. Otherwise you will be waiting a long time for the next update.

As mentioned above, PR is fluid. It is changing constantly.

PR matters very little when it comes to ranking. It's about time people would shut up and listen to people who know what they are talking about. If you are interested in SEO go to SEOmoz and read the beginners guide. Do not listen to much that you hear in forums. Forums (unfortunately) have so much misinformation in them.

Would it not make sense to build a quality website with good content. Provide others with valueable information so to that can recommend your resource and give them reasons to visit your site. Offer perhaps a good newsletter or update on your topic. Good luck.

Increasing your pagerank is not the easiest process, you need to wait long for that.

Keep on building your links from high PR sites, have a proper internal linking structure, conserve your PR by providing no-follow tags to less important pages. These will do the needful.

The toolbar PR has literally become useless. Especially for a new site whos PR is changing a lot. One of my new sites says PR 0, but I know by the next update it will be 3+ based on the backlinks. PR is un-knowable, and therefore not worth worrying about.
    Just. Build. Links.

PR is meaningless these days unless you want to sell ads spaces on your website. This is negative too as you will lose your targeted traffic. It will be difficult to get PR by using black hat techniques after the recent Google algorithm change. Post high quality content on your website and be a guest blogger on high PR websites. Forum profiles, blog commenting are getting meaningless now.
