Hi Warriors,

Are the search engines Yahoo and Bing as good as google ?

Cause am finding that my first 5 websites i created just before christmas are now ranking well in these 2 search engines. Most of them are in position 1 to 5 on page 1.

But on google, they dont even rank in the top 1000

I can say that these websites are not on there own domain names ! I have a universal domain name as a main domain, and add the sites as sub domains.

example. Main Domain. "homepage.com"

then all the websites are like this

"website1keyword.homepage.com"
"website2keyword.homepage.com"
"website3keyword.homepage.com"

Will doing the domains like this make a difference with google, because it doesnt seem to with Yahoo and Bing.

And this method means i always get my keyword as a domain name !
#bing #good #google #yahoo

Well, Google gets about 65-80% of total searches, so Google is really the best, but as you can see Yahoo and Bing are not the worst search engines in the world

Will it be the way am doing my domain name thats causing the problem with google ? Does google give much more credit to exact domain names with .com .net .org ?

Or is it just that its much easier to rank on these other search sites ?

Will been position 1 page 1 on bing and yahoo create quite a lot of visits ?

          Agreed

Recently, I had read an article on a major website that Bing gets more clickthroughs than Google. It is not easy to rank in Yahoo and Bing either. They have strict parameters as well. So expanding your approach for more traffic will always be helpful. Just imagine if you are ranking #1 on all 3 then you get 100% of the traffic searching for that term. Without yahoo and bing, you do lose out on quite some traffic.

Google has been number 1 for over a decade and God knows how long they are gonna be there but Yahoo and Bing are very powerful too, may not be as good as Google though.

Yahoo and Bing do not even compare to Google. Google is the king of search engines, Yahoo, and Bing are just servants to Google lol..... That sounds pretty bad huh? lol.... All kidding aside Youtube owned by Google gets more traffic than Yahoo, and Bing combined ....

That should tell you something. But if your ranking on the first pages that is always good because they still do get some good traffic. That is if the king Google lets them ...

Woah! Ok, that explains it. Several days ago I logged into YouTube to
reply to a video and I was NOT allowed because it is now mandatory to
link my eMail with Google. I guess because it was recognized my eMail
with YouTube is the same eMail I used to sign up with Google Adwords.

      ==============================================

I haven't crunched the numbers, but I have viewed my web stats several
times and would guess about 75% of my traffic is coming from organic
      searches at Google.

Much higher if I use G's PPC. LOL!

Thanks for all the insight in this thread.

But it really makes me wonder if you couldn't make some decent profit if you are ranking really well in Bing and Yahoo.

I mean even if they only have a small percentage of the global searches that should still be a few millions a month. Has anyone ever practically tried to aim for those smaller search engines? Do you have any results?

Yes, I did this for a while some years back. I went after long-tailed keyword phrases that required little to no external SEO work beyond a few blog posts focusing on ranking in Yahoo. About 160 mini-sites using a mixture of PLR and syndicated articles with Adsense brought in around $4K per month. Traffic was exclusively coming from Yahoo.

Unfortunately it wasn't the millions per month that you mentioned however, I think it shows that you are spot on with your observation. You can still earn quite well without Google traffic.

It may be that somewhere inbetween is best. Rank well in Bing and Yahoo during the early stages and then work slowly but steadily with unique content and building up quality one way inbound backlinks and crawl up in the SERPs for Google (the grand-daddy of traffic for any and all keyword phrases).

          Regards,
          Rob

One of my website has the following statistics in terms of search engine traffic:

    Google: ~ 95%
    Yahoo: ~ 2%
    Bing: ~ 2%
    Ask: ~ 1%

Of course this might change from site to site, but I believe Google has about 90% of total web search.

They all seem to show results evenly. And the results they show many times are similar to each other, so it doesn't appear to matter what SE you use.

I did notice that Google's results are better now that they've lowered the ranking of content-farm sites.

Google is the best by far. Bing sucks so bad I don't know anyone that uses it. My dad is the only one that uses Yahoo that I know of. The rest use Google. Easily better.

Ye ok so google is much better, but what baffles me is why my sites are ranking well on the other search sites, but not on google.

Why if mine rank well on yahoo, then why don't the sites that are miles ahead of me on google not rank well ?

Hey guys you are not really answering the question.

Primarily if you are a browser, hands down its Google. They index stuff much faster and return more relevant results for searches.

However if you are an internet marketer and looking for Search Engine traffic then clearly Google would be the obvious choice.

However the notable fact is that research shows a greater percentage in terms of conversions coming from Yahoo and Bing. This due to the fact that the international market uses Google only.

Your best bet would be to optimize your website and the content for the reader, then use online advertising to test your website to see if any sales result from a few keywords.

Once that's done choose the keyword with the highest return and search engine optimize for all platforms not just Google.

There is no problem ranking these pages. Go to google and type "seo training" (w/o quotes) and see the first result. Other examples are the blogspot websites ranking in google

    Hope it helps.

    Hey Tum,

I use the same tactic for some websites of mine: I have a good main domain and build off of it using subdomains. Remember, subdomains are (in the eyes of the Search Engines) their own domains... They are "subdomains" they are separate domains, so optimization will have to be worked from the ground up for each site.

I have the same concern with one of my sites - for about 10 different search terms my site ranks 1-3 in Bing, on page one of Yahoo!, and spread out 1-7 in Google.

According to Google Analytics, the traffic from Bing and Yahoo! COMBINED doesn't even equal the traffic that Google sends!

It's so stinkin easy to rank in Bing Lol! I'm just glad all Windows computers come preloaded with Bing as the Search Engine - That's my only hope for Bing LOL! :p

If you're sites aren't showing in the top 1000 Search Results in Google you're doing something wrong! Or they've slapped you for some bl@ck h@t tactics?! Submit your site for a reconsideration through Google Webmaster Tools. It's helped me in the past!

    CHEERS
    !

***EDIT: I just noticed on one of my sites that ranks very well gets more visitors from Yahoo! Answers than Bing and Yahoo! Search Lol!!

If you have 5 dofollow links and 9324 nofollow...
    You get the point

I'm sorry but I will respectfully disagree with your opinion. You do know that Google counts NoFollow links right?! They just don't pass link juice... But that doesn't mean that they're not important to Google... A link is a link is a link IMO. If you do your backlinking properly you should have NoDoFollow links from all sorts of different sites with different PRs.

P.S. I'll take my Wikipedia NoFollow backlinks over most DoFollow backlinks any day!

Yahoo and Bing are the same thing; Yahoo doesn't really exist anymore--it uses Bing's engine and results. Let's be honest, Bing sucks. Horribly. The only time it's any good is when it out-and-out recycles Google's results (!). It's still worth taking Bing/Yahoo into account when SEO campaigning, but in terms of quality it's crap to use.

Interesting. I had thought about running a few tests with Yahoo / Bing to see if I could hit the top of the results and generate more traffic than being on page 2 or 3 of Google for competitive phrases.

With my websites it usually ends up being about half and half. I really don't care that much b/c most pages you put a backlink on are going to have a PR of maybe PR1 or PR0... It doesn't matter if the TLD is a PR8 if you're not on page one. My results have spoken for themselves. It's pretty easy to find lots of PR4 and PR5 DoFollow though... Once you stumble across one it's usually a jackpot! LOL!

Whatever backlink I find... I'll take it... Google eats them up too... DUH!

Good post Jacked - I've seen the same exact results with several websites. It seems like it is very, VERY easy to rank VERY high (SERP 1-3) in Bing... After your site has been live for, oh say, two months..??! Lol! I take the #1 and #2 spot in Yahoo! or Bing for a BUNCH of different longtail/related keywords and my mid-page rankings in Google for half of those words demolishes Yahoo! and Bing's referrals!

  • My first thought was less competition hence the better rank, but then I thought, "What the hell am I talking about", because it's not like you really chose between ranking in the various search engines. Your sites just kind pop up. So possibly their alogs are different and maybe Googles are a little more harsh?
