Google Place Landing Page

I've read that it can be helpful to make a local landing page for your google places account. Yet when I look at the results coming out on top, they all direct to the home site. Anybody have any advice as to which is better?

    Like most things, the answer is, it depends.

    Right now with the new merged algo the ranking order is mainly based on the organic SEO ranking. So for most companies that have been trying to get their site to the top of organic for a long time, their homepage is going to have the highest organic ranking.

    If someone put lots of energy into a local landing page and could get it ranked ABOVE their homepage (organically) then it would be good to link to the landing page.

    I've been wanting to try it with my Google Places Optimization clients because I'm thinking it may be easier to just create a new totally optimized landing page for them to upload instead of trying to tweak and fix their existing site. I also think (based on the current algo and subject to change) that having a geo/KW subdomain could help, but have not tried it. Example: atlantaplummer.stopleak.com

    You can rank on page 1 with any domain, it doesnt really matter. What it really boils down to eventually is the time and effort it will take to get ranked - and obviously citations make all the difference.
