I want to know what a good click thru rate is. Also, what size of ads and placement of ads tend to get the highest CTR? What color combo is the best for your ads. How about in relation to the quality of your content and if you have any affiliate links within your content? Would really like warriors who have tested this stuff extensively to chime in here. (The experts on adsense) Thanks to all.

Todd

For me, large rectangle ad block above or within a post with title color #000080 - This combined with the Clickbump Engine theme gets me CTR's between 10% and 70% most of the time.

Thanks John. Are CTR above 50 in seasonal niches? I am not using WP for my sites so maybe the theme you use does help. Do you think the CTR varies mostly because of the niche?

Yes, I do believe the niche itself plays a major role in CTR, and it's impossible to tell what it will be until you start getting actual clicks. As to your question, no they are not seasonal niches, but they are physical, tangible products.

There is a lot of variables such as where you are placing your ad, and what your are offering, ect.

Hopefully this article from Wikipedia helps:

If you want to blend the colours of your links and text of the adsense ads to match with your website, try the Mozilla Colour Picker. It does help alot for me.

      Hi Todd,

There is no single ad layout or placement that could be considered best for all websites. There are many variables that change how the ads will perform. What works well on one niche can be terrible in a slightly different niche. And what works great for one layout can be poor for another.

The bottom line is that it doesn't matter which ad size, color or placement location worked for someone else, it has nothing to do with what will work best for your website. You need to try different configurations, keep records and let your own data tell you which works better. If you skip the testing on your own website you are likely to get much less than your potential best.

      To get the best, test!

Agree with Don. I'm not a publisher but I'm sure that one size doesn't fit all.

But there is one thing everybody is ignoring or forgetting: the ads themselves. Your CTR will only be as good as the quality of ads available to you. This will also greatly differ from niche to niche. You may move the position of ads, types, color scheme and what not but if advertisers don't make good ads, your visitors won't click. Now the system is designed to have the cream rise to the top, so you don't have to worry about that. But if the ad pool is poor, so will your CTR.
