EMDs : using Numbers instead of characters as suffix ?

Hi there,

using a number in a domain name as a pre/suffix when the EMDs is gone could be one option.
This could work better for to brand the domain than adding a single character like x,y,z.

Just wonder- did anyone manage to achieve top rankings for competitive keys by adding numbers like a "1" instead of characters to the EMD ?

example: "ebooks1.tld" instead of "ebooksz.tld"

    Well, there are no such users who are searching for numbers, so you should better change your domain into text or name of your products or services.

    I would advise against this if you're targeting an exact keyword or phrase. Instead, register the .net or even .info if they're available. People say that .info's don't rank as well. But this has never been my experience.

      EMDs rank well because Google deems them as the authoritative website for a product. No product owner would write a number in the URL for their own product if the EMD has been taken.

      For this reason, I wouldn't do it for the EMD SEO benefits, because I don't there would be much.

      As mentioned above, I would advise getting the .net, .org, etc.

      (on a side note; .info's actually rank very well)

        thanks for your reply.

        While adding a single character at the end of an EMD is used by a lot of marketers, using numbers everyone seems to avoid. Could happen big G. gets more confused from the numbers compared to the characters... Sadly a "1" looks much better than a "z"

        guess I`ll have to try ..

    I prefer add a hypen in domain than a letter if EMD is not available.

      I'm currently testing a site like EMDx.com so I will be sure to return with some feedback.

      At the moment though, I have 2 sites on page one of Google which have something like myEMD.com. Since creating those sites, I've read that if you are going to add extra words in the domain, do them at the end of the url, but it seems these 2 sites are doing ok.

    If keyword term contains numbers then you should use number in domain also for example "9800 accessories".
