Holy wow! You're right! That's insane. I really can't think of how they did it. I kind of want to know though.

The PageRank was faked, and came from womenshappiness.com

Read this post to find out how it was done.. Faking PageRank

As Patricia said above, the domain has been around. More than likely it had been permanently redirected to womenshappiness.com, expired, then picked up and registered again - still keeping the faked pagerank... at least for the time being, as it will disappear.

      You are correct.

One way to see if a site's PR is spoofed is to type info:getmentocommit.com
and see what Google returns as a result.

In this case it returned womenshappiness.com which is a PR4 site.

      Have a Great Day!

If getmentocommit.com is redirecting to womenshappiness.com, how come I don't see the redirect?

Is this a cloaking thing where Google sees one thing and I see another?

It just depends on where they put the redirect. They can forward on the domain level so you never see the redirect.

The domain is no longer redirecting. It had been redirected in the recent past, which is proven by the technique that Mr. Mayo pointed out above, and further explained in the link that I had provided.

The domain will only keep this fake PR for a short time, and as far as I know, doesn't get any ranking advantage because of it. The domain does not have a PR of 4, it is fake, viewable only by you as having PR, but not considered to have its own PR by Google.

Did some research and one technique is to do a PHP redirect where Google IPs go to the high PR site and everyone else goes to the real site.

So if this was the case you wouldn't know if the domain was redirecting or not.

The fake high PR site was included in a link request email, so I think the strategy is to get people to link to a destination of their choice using the offer of a (fake) high PR link back.

This is the other way to fake PR, but you risk ruining your site if you use this method. Google doesn't like cloaks too much. You risk getting penalized or worse for this, and while doing it your site has no hope of ranking. Google sees it as if it is a 301 redirect, and everything passes through.

If you want to check a few things to determine if a site is faking PR, you know how to do that now. If you want to check to see if the site is permanently redirecting SE bots using a cloak and php redirect, then you can check two different scenarios...

First, do a regular search in Google for the domain in question (after checking it with the info: operator). You'll notice that the same site comes up that you searched for with the "info:" operator, and additionally, you will see the domain that you actually searched for listed afterwards. This indicates that the redirect isn't in place.

Next, check the backlinks separately of each of those sites. The reason for this is that if a redirect is in place, it should forward all backlinks to the redirect site as well. If the site you are searching for has backlinks separate of the target site, then it is most likely not redirected. In this case, getmentocommit.com has a backlink of its own.

To check if a php redirect is currently in place, you can also check the cached pages in Google after doing a search for the domain name. It will show the cache of site it is redirected to in this case. However, you'll notice that these sites are cached of their own content.

I had checked both early on when I was checking to see if the PR was faked. This is how I deduced that is was faked, and that there is no redirect in place any longer - 301 or cloaked.

          You are absolutely right.
Cached copy from 18 March shows the redirected site, cached copy from 25 March doesn't.

Looks like they redirected long enough to pick up the PR and then stopped the redirection.

There you go folks - now you know how to fake high PR on a site and use it as bait to get link partners!

Perhaps, but I personally don't condone doing this for that reason. I definitely don't think you should ever do a cloaked redirect for bots, if you want your site to have good standing with the SE's.

I took the time to describe all of this to help people from being fooled by such methods. I hope that you didn't ask your original question in hopes that you could draw out this type content without being ridiculed for providing it in another way.

I do hope that this helps people from being deceived from buying fake PR links, buying fake PR sites or domains, and from thinking a site has more 'authority' in your niche than it actually does.

The PR is not real. It is faked. As has been mentioned, they got the PR from a womenshappiness.com redirect and it will be gone in the next update.

Nothing nefarious in my original question.

I got a link request email offering links from 2 high PR domains (including getmentocommit.com) and it looked fishy to me.

I knew the PR wasn't right but I couldn't work out how it was done.
      Now I know - thanks.

You don't need a 3rd party site to check fake PR. All you have to do is a info:domain.com at Google search. If the url you search doesn't match the results, it's a fake PR that is hijacking another sites real PR.
