Keywords are very important in the SEO. To get keyword on rank in search engine, we are going for link building techniques like blogs, article, press release and many others. But, can you tell me that when keywords are on good rank then how we can maintain that keyword rank? What is the best practice to maintain that keyword on rank?

Keep continuing your link building strategy and that should keep you going strong for sure. I think one of the best methods is by writing quality articles and constantly submit them to high value article directories like Ezine.

I would agree with this. Besides Ezine articles, that was recently dropped a bit by Google, and some others, they still have decent traffic and links that are good enough, so some ideas would be:
Squidoo, Hubpages, YouTube (link in the description), Blog comments, social bookmarking sites, blog voting sites (like BlogEngage, BlogInteract, etc), forums. Of course bottom line is, like App Developers and Peter76 said - more links. But with these ideas, you might diversify your link building more, it is usually good to diversify it

Definitely diversify your links and make sure that MOST of your links are closely to your niche.

If you are chasing high competition keywords the maintenance will never end! Better to rank for low competing keywords with high search trends if you can! Good Luck!

Listen to all the posts above, and remember for anything higher than low competition terms, you will need to regularly build links to keep a strong ranking.

  • Yes just keep at it. I think a lot of people may miss this step and then get outranked over time, but if you just keep allocating a portion of your day to building high PR backlinks from blogs etc (even if its only an hour a day), you will be sure to hold on to your spot, and most importantly it will help "warn off" any would-be contenders that are doing keyword research and accessing the top 10 ranking sites. If yours shows up at the top with 300 PR 5 backlinks they will move on for sure

Link building is the fundamental, never fails, can't get enough strategy. Diversify your links and find more ways to make your own links go viral. Have you tried creating a Youtube profile? You can add a link to your website there. Fill your channel with high quality videos and relevant keyword tags.

    Good luck!

        Hi

On the same line as this thread. I own and operate a merchant site selling physical products in the equestrian arena. We need to rank highly for hundreds of equestrian related keywords. I would welcome anyones opinion on whether they think the process of keyword ranking should differ from say blogs, or sites advertising non physical products eg clickbank etc and if so what?

Also how to increase the page rank

As a pure merchant site there is not much SEO optimized text to assist yet I see merchant sites with almost zero optimized text with high page rank and ranking high for great keywords

        Any opinions welcome

        thanks

The keywords should be related to your industry - writing a single page and getting rank for it in a site that is not specific to the topic/niche may only stay for a short period... if the site is about that niche then it should be adding more content and the increase of the site overall will help hold the spot but your competitors may get an influx of links from the industry for a particular article and cause you to drop.

Keywords should be with your industry - to write a page, it does not get ranked the site is a specific topic / niche may only stay in the short term if the site is about ... it would be more of a niche Content and improve the overall site will help hold down the point, but your competitors may get a link into the article from the industry-specific, so you give up

I'd remember Matt Cutts when he speak regarding building links at this time. I think most of us should be creating something that are unique and helpful content for users. Maybe most of us should involving to some question and answers site where we can be helpful to some. Now if people would really like our contribution they will more likely to share us in their blog and bookmark us. And that's the natural way to build more back link and keep our keyword ranking for our website.
