NoIndex for WP Tags?

Here's what keeps happening to me. Shortly after I make a new post on my WP blog, one of my tag pages will outrank my actual post by a few pages in the SERPS.
example:
domain,com/tag/hockey
will outrank
domain,com/hockey.html
This usually corrects itself with some backlinks to the post, but this got me wondering... Should I noindex all of my tags on my blog? Would that help out not only in this initial ranking issue, but also prevent some keyword cannibalization and preserve more internal link juice to the better links?
