Lots of small sites in the same niche - should I link them?

Hi,

I am in the process of creating a few small sites, each with exact keword match domain. All of the sites are in the same niche, should I link them all together (with sitewide links) to create a kind of 'blog network'. Will this strengthen them or make it look spammy to the search engines?

Stevie.

It'd depend on the no. of sites you have, won't make sense to interlink 30-100 sites.

Keep in mind that unless you are hosting at different hosts it doesn't really add any more weight. However it is still a good idea to link all the sites together one way or another.

    Example

    Site 1 links to 2
    site 2 links to 3
    site 3 links to 4
    site 4 links site 5
    site 5 links to 1

Now you can also increase the links by adding to other sites as well but try to avoid linking 2 sites together at location a and b. This way you get more weight for your site wide links.

You can link them to each other, wont hurt your website!

There is no danger for anything like that, but it is not cost effective
from any aspect. You would have to do equal work on each one.
Either they will all suffer from lack of work, or you will suffer from
too much work. And they are all competing against one another.

Better to make one large authoritative site.

You could make one large site, and several satellite sites that
      are niche-related.

        Thanks for the response guys.

Paul - yes i've been wrestling with this idea, I have 2 different sites, each targetting a different sub-niche and I am thinking of setting up one or two more. The reason i've done it like this is to take advantage of the exact match .com domains for my chosen keywords - do you think it would be more effective to just create a big site, set up a non KW optimised domain (no exact matches available for the larger niche - already saturated) and put all my content there and leverage the better index count?

If all you are talking about is 2 sites, then go for it.
Setting up one more as the biggie would be cost
effective. 3 sites is very manageable. Then they could
feed off of each other quite nicely.

woah, I am pretty sure there were strong warnings a couple of years ago about this kind of linking pattern. Don't do it until you have done more research than just asking on SEO forums. I am not able to dig right now but I am sure there is a good reason I have been avoiding this practice. Do some research!

      Thanks Mark,

I can't find anything on what you are talking about. Can any of the more experienced memebrs shed some light on this?

You can add a section called "Friends" or "Similar Websites" where you can post around 5 links to your other websites. But as others said, if they are hosted on the same server (they share the same ip) it would have a lot less impact and it might even damage your website by having more outbound links with very little value.
