Just noticed amazon has a CPC program now. At first glance, I
thought it was a normal PPC, like adsense. But it's not really.
Looks like you have to have products or something. They are
giving away the usual $75 voucher.
Amazon Product Ads - Drive traffic to your website with Amazon's CPC advertising program.

  • Interesting indeed. Agree though, it seems that you are driving traffic away from Amazon, so you will need to have your own product I guess, or something like that.

Yeah, it's very strange. Put your page link on a product page, selling
the same (I assume) product. Traffic clicks out of amazon and buys
elsewhere. Doesn't seem cost effective for either party.

        Paul,
I just tried this out about 2-3 weeks ago. It's awful. You have no idea where your ads are being displayed and no one at Amazon can tell you. They have no idea either.

They are supposed to be displayed on 'relevant' pages, but I searched every single possiblity and page, and my ads were nowhere to be found.

In the 'fine print' of their $75.00 credit, you have to get your first click by a certain date. (I'm thinking they have extended it now, judging by the date of your post compared to when I first found this a couple weeks ago and tested it, but at that time, the offer expired that day.)

However, I did have a link to my product ad, so I gave it to some friends on Skype and asked them to click through to my site so I got the credit, which I did. I got three clicks this way, and according to Amazon, I did get 12 page impressions before they yanked the ad (more on that in a minute)... so they assured me the ad must be showing somewhere, but they couldn't tell me where.

You have to upload a 'product catalog' too. Very similar to Google's, but Amazon gives you a decent template to follow and though they don't give you a guide on how to follow it, you can get support via an immediate phone call from them and the rep will walk you through it. (Mainly, anything in red must be filled out, and everything else is optional, but strongly recommend that you fill out the keywords, since that's how they determine relevancy.'

They yanked my ad for 2 reasons.. 1 is that the product is on back order, and 2, I offer a $5.00 discount on the order page for it, which is different than the advertised price on Amazon, which is not allowed.

I haven't bothered to go back and make any changes yet, but since I was able to get the credit, which I believe was supposed to be good until July, I will once we have stock.

It could be a good advertising platform if and when Amazon makes it more user friendly and can tell you where your ads are being shown.
