when you create a forum profile and include your URL in the profile, do you post in that forum as well? is this a case where you can post as much as possible or just once?

No totally clear about your question. But if you created profile in a forum, you would want to post in that forum and contribute whenever you can. However, forums are not always the best place for back links if you're looking for Google link juice. Better to get back links from popular locations with PR ratings of 2+ or 3+. Most individual forum pages don't have a PR rating and have internal no follow rules in place so you wont get any back link credit from Google.

I would agree here. I rarely use forums for backlinks. Forums are great for generating traffic though.

My thoughts are that, with the direction Google is moving in, forum sigs are one of the types of links that may become more devalued. If think about it... Google is using links to find credible sites with the mindset that if someone links to you, your site must be rank-worthy. But when you can create thousands of links yourself through forum sigs... that's very counter to their whole intention. HOWEVER, they're a great way to reach your targeted audience (i.e. other members of the forum!)

You can post as much as you can. But make sure that it makes sense. If you are posting just to show your signature, that means you're only posting spammy posts.

When you become a member in any forum and you create your profile then you usually can add your website url there as well but to add it as a signature link lot of forums require certain post count that needs to be met before you can do that. Once you can use live signature links you can post as many time as you like. I do participate in lot of forum and I have found it to be very good way to get targeted traffic, just find relevant forums for your niche and post quality content and traffic will come.

You should focus on getting direct traffic to your site when you do forum posting.
