Do Articles work for Local Businesses?

i've noticed that google local places pages are dominating the front page. is article marketing an effective lead generator for Local businesses or is it only an effective SEO tool for regional or national companies and affiliates? any comments?

    Of course. I don't see any difference between what a local business can do versus a national one.

    Think about a local real estate agent. Get them to write a simple article about every neighborhood, home builder, apartment complex and condo development in their target territory. That's the makings of a really, really good site which is going to rank well out of the gate for a bunch of long tail keywords and should with decent SEO work rank well for the realtor and local real estate terms everyone always wants.

    You are talking about two separate things. Ie. Google Places Listing and Organic ranking. For most service type businesses GP listings certainly dominate the front page and you should aim for a high GP listing as well as high organic ranking. Since the organic ranking will help to push your GP listing up.

    Use the articles to push the clients site up on Google maps. Every time you submit an article it effects the placing.

    The majority of the customers your client will get won't be from the articles written but from going to google and typing in the specific keyword...then they will see your clients location and click on the that or they will just call him.

    Try to get them to the A spot

      thanks for the replies. so what everyone is saying is that articles are only useful for Organic traffic and Google Place rankings. The odds of any local business generating leads from relevant high-quality articles alone throughout the web are slim to none, unless they search on Google?
