New Google Update - What's the problem?

Hi all,

The new Google update just hit the UK, I assume this is the case because one of my main sites just dropped severely in ranking...

I woke this morning to find the majority of the keywords it ranked for were either non-ranking or 5-10 positions less.

The site had a lot of spun pages but also original content... the majority of the links were from spun article marketing and SEnuke etc.

To be honest I was expecting to be hit... so I had built up a network of other sites with unique content/links etc... so i'm not that worried, but I wanted to know....

is it the content of the sites that has been hit, or the quality of the links pointing to it???

regards

Tim

I lean toward the links pointing at your site losing value.

It's everything - Google is constantly updating and making small tweaks; just because your site has had a change in rankings, doesn't mean Google has any issues with your site. I've had sites disappear for a while and then come back with stronger rankings (Google dance).

I wouldn't worry too much or over analyse your rankings - it takes time for stable rankings in Google.

please bear in mind this site has been around for almost a year... and has ranked very well until today...

it was a bit of a learning curver, i tried spinnig a lot of pages... much of which didn't rank, but it's been stable for the past 3-4 months or so...

like i said... i've got a backup plan so i'm not too worried, but i'm keen to know if it's the quality of the links that causes the problems, or the quality of the website?

Was it the same article spun multiple times and placed on different pages on your website?

If so, I did an experiment on a subdomain using that and they absolutely and ruthlessly NAILED it and I mean they NAILED it.

But, no problem...it told me exactly what I needed to know.

yeah... i span a page to a huge extent and posted it 30 times with different keywords... then wrote/span another page and posted it 30 times etc.

I know it wasn't good practice, but it was working so I figured why not while I build the 'legit' sites....

There were also completely unique pages which also seem to have been hit.

The site is still pR2 mind... which doesn't make sense if google currently hates it
