Does Google Start devalue Homepage Ranking?

I searched many keywords on google and find there is seldom(only 2-3) homepage listing on the top 5. The top 3 place are usually innerpage of authority sites.
There is no EMD domain rank in first page of product name or product review keywords at all.

Is it a new algorithm?

I have several sites with all 100% original content and I only build backlinks to homepages. Recently the homepage ranking droped 40 more position but innerpage still keep their rank.

I've noticed this recently too and I'm still testing the theory.

In my opinion is would be a good thing, pages should be recognized for their individual quality rather than what they link too.

This is because for most sites the real content is on inner-pages. This is the content that other people naturally link to so will be more targeted for a phrase. I highly doubt they are devaluing the homepage.

A homepage is best used as a portal page. It gets a lot of internal link juice which will help your entire site - every page on your site links back 'home'.

interesting, I just searched "dog training" and it seems to be all home pages ranked in the top 10

This is my theory on your questions (seeing as no one knows googles algo for sure)...

Most sites will target their most competitive, broadest keyword (dog training) on their home pages (dogtraining.com) making your theory very untrue for these types of keywords. However, most optimizers use inner pages (dogtraining.com/dog-training-quickly.html) to rank for variations of their main keyword (dog training quickly) so for these keywords you will see the inner pages rank higher.

More often than not, when you see inner pages ranking high in google, it is because the sites owner wanted that page to rank over their homepage.

About 4+ months ago I noticed google giving inner page ranking more weight, but the only time you will see the inner page out ranking the index is when you have an inner page better optimized for that keyword.

The one exception to an inner page ranking for the broad most competitive keyword is when the main page of a site acts as an umbrella so to speak - Covering a bunch of sub niches under a broad market. For example a general site about dogs will have their dog training in a sub section inside the site instead of an individual site just on that one subject.
